This is as close to the Exe as is reasonably possible, and the path was easy to follow without obstructions in October 2025....

I walked from Tiverton to Cullompton on a muggy summer day, so was very happy that this is a flat, relatively short and easy walk. The 2.5 miles along the canal was my favourite part of the walk - peaceful and plenty of nature. Can't really add much more to the previous reviews - good route....

I got across the fence ok, (I just stepped on it) but immediately we entered the field the whole herd of cows ran over from the opposite side. Trouble is the fence is right at the edge of the field, so I had to push through brambles and nettles, while trying not to fall in the ditch, all while the cows were challenging us. In an earlier field we walked past cows that ignored us completely....

A good option to DULTIV(two) which utilizes the Tiverton Old Road for much of its length between Bampton and Tiverton. Unfortunately although not heavy on traffic many locals use that road as a fast alternative to the main road in the valley and so drice accordingly....

Now that the building work appears to have finished on the Farleigh Meadows estate at Tiverton. The walk through here has been reinstated and it is no longer necessary to walk along the Rackenford Road at this point. I have included a screenshot of the route through this estate below....

There were a couple of steep climbs to get the blood pumping, but considering this route travels across the rolling green hills of mid Devon it wasn't as hilly as you'd expect....

The southern section between Silverton & Bickleigh is generally on small roads/lanes, although some of them are too small for vehicles, so at least quiet and generally traffic-free. It also includes a noticeable climb of a hill north of Silverton, which does provide some pleasant views south towards the coast. The northern half of the route between Bickleigh and Tiverton is mostly on decent footpaths beside the River Exe....

One short section along the A3072 Bickleigh to Crediton Road has no pavement and little verge. It is however on a straight and relatively short section of road connecting 2 footpaths....

However as it stands there is a section which goes along a private road through "Lower Roach" from SS 96117 03638 to SS 96293 04538. There is however a delightful path from SS 96101 04242 which by-passes the private road and is included in TIVSIL two....

A mostly road route - albeit quiet lanes, with good countryside views. about 600 metres of this route after Nomansland is on a B road which is quite busy and with no pavement, in order to access the footpath. I recommend re-routing this section along the road to the north - WIVTIV2....
