There were a couple of steep climbs to get the blood pumping, but considering this route travels across the rolling green hills of mid Devon it wasn't as hilly as you'd expect....
Helen Gough
As the others have mentioned, there is a mix of footpaths and lanes, but the lanes are very quiet, the least quiet being from Langley to Burrow Cross, but you can't call it busy....

This is a good walk using a chunk of the Two Moors way then deviating off to Dulverton. Instead go left and walk 150 yds down the hill, then take the grassy path to the right and walk along parallel to the river....
Richard Wetenhall
Almost exclusively off roads, it’s peaceful and good walking. From Black Dog to Witheridge it’s also largely off road and uses old bridleways...

As you climb out of Lapford make sure you look back as the views from there are outstanding, with Dartmoor in the far distance....

A lovely walk with amazing views. Walked on a very hot day but even on the lanes there was plenty of shade. Lovely walk through woods and although some climbing needed nothing too bad....

Tim Ryan added Wittiv three, a new walk from Witheridge to Tiverton
Walk this routeIt is in my opinion also safe for wheeled use, although there is a steep section at Templeton Bridge....

Lots of great view in all directions especially on the Two Moors Way section between Witheridge and Black Dog....
Charles Hedley
A lovely route through the beautiful mid Devon countryside with wonderful views, including both Exmoor and Dartmoor. It starts in open fields and then mostly follows tracks and very quiet lanes. It is easy to follow (the first section is part of the Two Moors Way) but is quite hilly and can be very muddy so would be a real challenge on wheels....
Susanna Bennett
But these roads are very quiet and make for an enjoyable walk. The walk along the river is very pleasant, and the field crossings above Lapford are a delight....
Tim Ryan
Long road sections, but on quiet "safe" lanes makes for an enjoyable route. Some very nice wooded sections on footpaths,,...
Tim Ryan
An option at Black Dog is to avoid walking along the road (unless going to the pub) and take the paths on the more direct line....
Tim Ryan
A longer walk than WITDUL one, using paths, rather than road. Great views and generally a well waymarked route. A long road section along the Two Moors Way, but quiet....

Tim Ryan added Witdul two, a new walk from Witheridge to Dulverton
Walk this routeA mostly road route - albeit quiet lanes, with good countryside views. about 600 metres of this route after Nomansland is on a B road which is quite busy and with no pavement, in order to access the footpath. I recommend re-routing this section along the road to the north - WIVTIV2....
