Connect Banstead with Slow Ways
We’re creating a network of walking routes that connect all of Britain’s towns, cities and national parks
more walks and reviews are needed to fully connect Banstead to the verified network. Can you give a hike and help?

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Banstead’s Slow Ways.

If you continue on the path after crossing Holly Lane you arrive at a Waitrose (toilets) on Banstead High Street....

The northern half follows the (Reigate and Banstead) Millennium Trail which has good white and blue waymarks, simple to navigate. At the point where that trail route joins this route (south of Mugswell) it also joins BanRed 1 and BanRed 2 Slow Ways from Redhill. If you plan to eat at Banstead it's worth staying on the Millennium Trail instead of leaving at Holly Lane....

The path up the hill here was easy going too (photo #2). Going into Kingswood (photo #6), the Legal and General House looked imposingly to the left, and the route continued through Kingswood and past its station....

From Belmont onwards, it is one straight route along a busy road into Sutton....

For the remainder into Banstead the route crosses every farms, with some fields having a few horses. Lovely route, but minus points for the very short section of dangerous road walking and horses....

I started this walk at Ashtead Park after having walked from Epsom....

Most of the walk is through lovely North Downs chalk farmland and woods, some ups and downs of course!...

Leave Banstead by a quiet path, cross dual carriageway at lights, and continue to Banstead station on a pleasant residential street and footpath through woods. From Priest Hill there is a long footpath direct to the Ewell bypass....

I walked Ewell to Banstead and had no problems as far as Banstead station, where there is a blind road crossing. Tbh from direction of Ewell this may not be obvious, there is a view of traffic coming round the corners; but for anyone coming from Banstead it would be very unsafe - you can’t see the cars and they can’t see you....

It's a short walk mostly along public roads with not a great deal of interest along the way apart from a wonderfully decorated post box and the modernist Bourne Hall which looks like a magnificent concrete flying saucer....

Walk this routeTake care when leaving Woodmansterne via Rectory Lane (assuming Banstead to Coulsdon direction) as there is no proper pavement for part of the way as you near the footpath up to Prospect Common....

This route mainly tracks via roads Epsom side, and backyard alley ways through Nork. There are a couple of large road crossings at Drift Bridge and Brighton Road, both are serviced by pedestrian lights, so it's safe and easy to cross...

I've shared another slightly different route that is a little shorter and less road walking....

A really superb walk which I started from Redhill. The M25 is crossed by underpass and just beyond it is the steepest part of the walk to the top of the North Downs. Kingswood presents the opportunity to walk the pavement past the gated driveways of large detached houses....
David Sanderson
A direct, safe and enjoyable route comprising of a muddy, wooded, offroad section over Banstead Common in Surrey then the pavements of Greater London into Sutton. Generally easy to follow but marred by some dodgy plotting at the Banstead end, not bad enough to fail it, but bad enough to have to guess what they had intended. The Sutton end has links to transport and pubs....

Walk this routeWas all set to give this route 5 stars but at the north end of Kingswood at TQ 2472 5720 the route turns into a road marked "Private Road - No Thoroughfare"....

Avoid crossing the A217 dual carriageway at Banstead crossroads because of 60 mph limit by using pedestrian lights at Fir Tree Road and Brighton Road to enter Banstead via The Horseshoe. Food shops in Nork Way near Banstead Station. Good shops at Banstead (M&S Food)....

The Banstead end of the route is mainly footpaths cutting through quiet residential areas....

A really lovely route to Banstead from Ewell which is a nice alternative to the London Loop. Footpaths mixed in with fairly quiet residential areas. Couple of big roads to cross over....
