Connect Reigate with Slow Ways
We’re creating a network of walking routes that connect all of Britain’s towns, cities and national parks
more walks and reviews are needed to fully connect Reigate to the verified network. Can you give a hike and help?
Give a hike!Help connect Reigate
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Reigate’s Slow Ways.

Steep going up Colley Hill from Reigate. Rather pleasant coming down from Headley, however!!...

We walked at a gentle pace of 5 kph and the walk took about 2 and a half hours. Much of the walk is hard surfaced as it uses the National Cycle Route 21 for much of the way....
Bostal Boy
It is incredibly hilly at times and there is one point where you have to walk on a main road but as a whole it is mostly paths/fields and woods....

The paths were easy to walk, with space left in the crop fields (photo #2). A level crossing (photo #4) brings you to a long section through some alleyways, before crossing a golf course (photo #5). A road walk (photo #8) brings you to Lower Kingswood, where you'll have to cross (with lights) the A217 (photo #10)....

From Headley the route starts with some ziggy-zaggy footpaths, and a few gates (photo #1), before I had to cross through a field with a (docile) horse. Soon, the route went down the slope (photo #3) and then up again in the direction of the M25, which you could hear a little. After Colley Hill, the walk went down over a slippery path (photo #11)....

A fine route, very quiet, good surfaces and very little road walking. Couldn't always avoid mud and waterlogging but the only significant flooding I didn't reroute to avoid was the bridge over Salfords Stream, a little bank climbing, rose briars and slightly wet socks got me across. To avoid steps and crossing a narrow blind bend at St Mary's Church on Chart Lane, go a little further south to cross, then use a hidden path in front of the school opposite to join the alley....

Quiet but direct route avoiding the busy A roads, almost all roads in fact....

Surface generally good but plenty of tree roots on parts of the North Downs Way....
JohnMyerson
Direct, pleasant with minimal road walking. Can’t ask for much more in an urban area....

From Reigate's busy high street (photo #1), the route soon became a well maintained path between a wall and a fence (photo #2) up to the church....
Derick Rethans
The northern half follows the (Reigate and Banstead) Millennium Trail which has good white and blue waymarks, simple to navigate. At the point where that trail route joins this route (south of Mugswell) it also joins BanRed 1 and BanRed 2 Slow Ways from Redhill. If you plan to eat at Banstead it's worth staying on the Millennium Trail instead of leaving at Holly Lane....

The route then continues towards Brockham (photo #5) where it crosses the River Mole on a bridle path. After going through a churchyard, the route continues along a footpath a little higher up from a "Road liable to flooding" (photo #8) before turning North on the quiet Sandy Lane. A slightly detoured around a very muddy field before crossing some fields and stiles to end up at the Park Pit lake, where the route then continued through Dungates Lane where loads of Golden Retrievers where watching my progress. From the Skimmington there is a muddy path (photo #11), first along Littleton Lane towards Reigate Park with its lake, before continuing towards Reigate along the busyish Park Lane....
Derick Rethans
There is one small section on Crossoak Lane where you walk in the road which has no footpath and is a national speed limit; this can be avoided by taking the marked footpath on the left on Lake Lane, about 200m before the junction with Crossoak Lane....
Katecheema
I've shared another slightly different route that is a little shorter and less road walking....
JohnMyerson
Distance shorter than Reiban One because road walk past Kingswood Station is omitted....
JohnMyerson
Good connection from Reigate to Redhill, avoiding most main roads. Not particularly exciting as walks go though....
Hewston09
Watch the navigation where Sandy Lane meets Old Road near Wonham - need to go onto Old Road briefly otherwise it's easy to turn right up a private road by mistake....
patbrown1886
The start and end points are easily reachable by public transport and are good town centres with plenty of facilities; there are also three intermediate points along the route where you can stop at a pub; there are also shops and public transport in Brockham and Betchworth. The route isn't accessible to wheels as it includes some steep woodland sections and many stiles....
