Help connect Redhill
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Redhill’s Slow Ways.

At the quarry its national cycle network number 22, so metalled and easily passable in otherwise muddy conditions....

Quiet but direct route avoiding the busy A roads, almost all roads in fact....

I also tried to avoid Netherene Lane on the way out of Netherene (there is a small carpark for the block of flats and then a field and a path across it) and tried to cross the field to join the path but was told it was actually someone's garden!...
Tara
We also walked from Blindly Heath to Outwood (reversing the route as published)....

The route is well marked on the map and easy to follow on the ground, though I missed the path from Nutfield Marsh Road and took the footpath a bit further down the road after Peyton's Cottages. There's a steep climb up onto the North Downs so it is quite a strenuous walk. The section of the North Downs Way has impressive views southwards....

Then there's a good surfaced path that leads to Nutfield Marsh Road near the pub (Inn on the Pond) passing Glebe Lake. Surrey County Council tell me that the repair work is complex and won't be done soon although Sustrans are on the case. The diversion is to continue up the road about 350 metres then turn left on path FP643....

I can't agree with the other reviews as there are a number of problems on this route including some road walking where there are no pavements. The first two miles are fine to Willey Park Farm but the route down to Spring Bottom Lane is a steep, narrow and rutted path (FP159) which ends in steps down to the road....
JohnMyerson
The path there was mostly good (photo #1), but at other parts ridiculously muddy (photo #2). Once crossed the M25 on a bridge, the route then heads through another woodland (photo #6) with lots of wild blackberries, up to Rockshaw Road slightly uphill. And finally it finishes with a short section along a narrow lane (photo #14) to end up at Netherne and its church (photo #15)....
Derick Rethans
Very similar to banred one but avoids the private road....
lukeharvey
There is an alternative way via Merstham and crosses Hilltop Lane in Chaldon. It’s slightly quicker than this route....
lukeharvey
Direct, pleasant with minimal road walking. Can’t ask for much more in an urban area....
lukeharvey
This avoids Copt Hill Lane which is a private road and has no public right of way. That said, on old ordnance survey maps the adjoining bridleway (current SCC number 46) extended the full length of the lane and was a marked right of way....
lukeharvey
Once on the A23 walk to Shepherds Hill where there is a footpath that takes you right into Netherne (SCC footpath number 614)....

After crossing Brewer Street, there is a short section along Place Farm Road that is not pleasant, but you soon can walk along a wide sandy path (photo #11) along the Godstone Sand Quarry. At the far end of the quarry there is than a foot path (photo #12) that gets you to Bletchingly Road that gets you into Godstone along a pavement....
Derick Rethans
Derick Rethans added Redgod two, a new walk from Redhill to Godstone
Walk this routeThis route has access issues, as it goes straight across quarries without access. I did complete this route, and will submit a more accurately and accessible route as Redgod2....
Derick Rethans
From Reigate's busy high street (photo #1), the route soon became a well maintained path between a wall and a fence (photo #2) up to the church....
Derick Rethans
If you continue on the path after crossing Holly Lane you arrive at a Waitrose (toilets) on Banstead High Street....
JohnMyerson
From there on it soon followed a cycle way all the way to Horley over easy going paths -- asphalt (photo #2), and gravel (photo #3), before going through "Whitebushes"....
Derick Rethans
The path up the hill here was easy going too (photo #2). Going into Kingswood (photo #6), the Legal and General House looked imposingly to the left, and the route continued through Kingswood and past its station....
Derick Rethans
The walk involves two motorway crossings and there's lots of uphill walking from Merstham to Netherne....
Saira
Merstham (en route) has a train station, small supermarket, a pub and a petrol station....

Just having passed Earlswood Railway Station the route enters a private road, at the other end of which is "Asylum Arch Road", pointing to a bit of local history. The footpath across the road then takes you on the most rural section of the walk accompanied by bluebells, green fields and views of the North Downs. It's a 40mph road but it has a pavement. Cycleway 21 doesn't follow this road, and it's possible there might be a better alternative using it, but that's for someone else to find out (or me, but not now)....

My first ever Slow Way, walked with my brother, David Sanderson, and my husband, Andy. The route started from a great point to buy provisions and was easy to follow. It felt safe and I would walk it again....

A really superb walk which I started from Redhill. The M25 is crossed by underpass and just beyond it is the steepest part of the walk to the top of the North Downs. Kingswood presents the opportunity to walk the pavement past the gated driveways of large detached houses....
David Sanderson
David Sanderson added Banred two, a new walk from Banstead to Redhill
Walk this routeWas all set to give this route 5 stars but at the north end of Kingswood at TQ 2472 5720 the route turns into a road marked "Private Road - No Thoroughfare"....

David Sanderson added Rednet two, a new walk from Redhill to Netherne On-The-Hill
Walk this routeGood connection from Reigate to Redhill, avoiding most main roads. Not particularly exciting as walks go though....
Hewston09
Some very steep sections of loose gravel & muddy sections. No facilities en-route Some road walking...

This is a gorgeous route that goes through fields, along woodland, past quaint houses and past a reservoir. It is mostly flat but does have a couple of stiles. There's about a km of fairly dull section just before Godstone which goes around a quarry, the route on slow ways indicates to go straight through the quarry which isn't possible but a very slight detour to a parallel track gets you around that....
