The canal goes through the countryside which as my walk was in Autumn is full of lovely colours all along the route before ending in Kinver. A safe easy to follow and enjoyable route....

Another good Slow Ways route which i started from Stourbridge following the Monarchs Way along canal towpath before leaving on to a walkway through to follow A491 into Kingswinford. Easy to follow and safe....

Another excellent Slow Ways leaving Wombourne via a green way to follow the old Staffordshire Railway track and residential streets into Kingswinford. Easy to follow route would recommend....

This is a very enjoyable walk which for the most part is along the Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal. The only things stopping it get the full five star treatment are the busy crossing of the fast A449 (photo 2), and a very short section of road walking along Doctor's Lane which has no verge (photo 3). As mentioned already, once you reach the road at Doctor's Lane there is no verge so care is required on this short section....

Walk this routeIt does seem a little harsh to fail this route as the correct route is extremely similar, however there is an error with the route plotting towards the Kinver end where this route leaves the canal that could cause issues. There is no public right of way or route through the woodland as given here and on OS maps, so the walker is forced to keep to the canal until the lock keeper's cottage and then head north to The Hyde and almost double back on themselves to rejoin the route. It's an obvious and easy diversion which doesn't deviate too much but a corrected version will save others from potentially trespassing and hunting for this route as we did....

On leaving the canal a pathway is followed alongside a large cemetery, past a large church onto the main road which is then followed to the finishing point in `Kingswinford....

This has the potential to be a sound route but the section which links the canal to Stourbridge High Street is impassable. A well established industrial estate and fencing forms a barrier. The issue can be easily corrected by following the Monarchs Way instead....

Just before leaving the canal, there is an option to visit Stourbridge Glass Museum (apart from Robert Plant and Diamond Head, glass blowing is Stourbridge's most famous export)....

Walk this routeRather than following the Monarch's Way it follows a route which still appears possible on Google Earth, but in reality attempts to cross private land via fences...

Could have been a great Slow Way but attempts an inaccessible short cut rather than following the very well marked Monarchs Way to join the canal outside Stourbridge. Long existing fences, private land and a magic leap across the River Stour. No....

It's an adequate method to walk between the two places. The highlight for me being the brief section of the old dismantled Wombourne Branch Line and canal towpaths. It can be recommended as it's fairly direct, with just a few steps down to reach the route of the old railway from Bromley Lane....

The section close to the north of the Middle Pool felt a little overgrown (photo 12) even in Winter, and imagined it could be difficult in Summer if it wasn't maintained....

The short section on Doctors Lane and after the junction with Ashwood Lower Lane is on the side of a road, but traffic was very quiet and it didn’t feel in any way dangerous....

Mostly via pavemented roads but with a middle stretch of parkland and canal towpath. No issues, although steps at some points would probably preclude wheelchairs, buggies etc....

Mainly pavement but goes through Buckpool Nature Reserve along the Stourbridge Canalin the middle, so boots are advised. There are steps up out of the park at Kingswinford and over the bridge out of the Nature Reserve so not accessible to all. Easy to follow, safe and direct....

Walk this routeRoute started well in Dudley, the detour to avoid following the main road didn't seem too arduous. 2 Having got in to Canal Park, rather than following the reasonably weather proof cycle path, the route goes down a boggy uneven footpath by the side of the canal (not a towpath)....
