Help connect Pontypridd
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Pontypridd’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates
The only slight issue is when you get to Church Road in Church Village, there is a small section without any pavement that is on a bend and seemed to be fairly busy....

After leaving the streets behind there`s a lovely section walking up through Graig-y-Fforest woods and then out onto the rural lane that takes you down into Church Village....

Just after Tre-Boeth Farm at the end of the second field, the path seems to disappear. There`s a nice green lane after Tyla Winder Farm, which winds around to another farm or establishment not shown on the map. Apart from the above, it was a pleasant walk, finishing off down the winding rural lane (Gelliwion Road) into Ponty....

It passes through the Trehafod Park and Barry Sidings Country Park, which take up the majority of the walk. Photo 3 - Barry Sidings Country Park...

It`s easy to walk, easy to navigate, as it`s a national cycle route (Taff Trail, route 8) and suitable for wheels of all descriptions. As pointed out in another review, there is no direct link from the Taff Trail to Abercynon station, as shown on the map, so a little loop is needed via River Court....

After leaving the park, there is a short section alongside the A4054 main road, but it`s only a short stretch, and then you`re on to the Taff Trail cycle route walking through long woodland sections....

The route is well marked, just follow the blue taff tail markers, and is flat....

This is a very nice route that follows the Taff trail between Pontypridd and Caerphilly....
Deri Roberts
The walk consisted of mostly walking through shaded woodland along well-maintained paths with the occasional valley view of the hills beyond. The route itself was very easy to do with flat, concrete paths making up the majority of the walk....
Daniel Chapman
Very easy to navigate, when you exit the train station at Abercynon, cross over the river and join the Taff trail, follow the blue Taff trail signs all the way into Pontypridd....
Jozie Postles
You pass through a few farms and it’s hard to navigate where to rejoin the route, the stiles are in poor condition and in places it’s very boggy. Would only advise for an experienced walker....

The nicest part is the lane running north of Church Village and the footpath connecting it with Treforest. There are signs informing walkers about the views to Pen y Fan and Somerset (not today though)....

A nice traffic free route, but be aware that it is not well lit so may not be suitable for night time walking, and there are some barriers which may be difficult for wheelchair users to pass through. I have reported these to the local authority so hopefully they will be removed soon....
mgsmith88
The walk was reviewed only as far as Berthlwyd Bungalow since the remainder of the route north had already been reviewed as part of the Church Village to Pontypridd route, comments may be found for ChuPon one....

The chosen route is the most beautiful route I could imagine but there are many areas which are difficult underfoot and the path in the area between Berthlwyd Bungalow and Forest Uchaf Farm is very difficult to follow....

Walk this routeI created this route and for some reason, I've implied that you can drop down from the bridge outside Abercynon station, which you can't....
