Description

I'm offering an alternative route Pontypridd to Church Village which is less pretty but easier underfoot. There is a section on tarmac through Trefforest and this offers opportunities to visit shops and cafés. The ascent south of the University of South Wales is on a path that is mostly firm throughout the year. The road section after this is generally very quiet with almost no traffic

I walked this in two separate parts from Pontypridd to Trefforest and then from Church Village to Trefforest. The first part is straightforward pavement walking. The second part is more picturesque and includes a nice section along a very quiet lane - I didn't see a single car. The only slight issue is when you get to Church Road in Church Village, there is a small section without any pavement that is on a bend and seemed to be fairly busy. Nothing too bad, just something to be aware of.

September 2022. Direction: Pontypridd to Church Village.

A walk of two halves really. The first section takes you through the streets of Pontypridd and Trefforest, which is almost half of the walk. After leaving the streets behind there`s a lovely section walking up through Graig-y-Fforest woods and then out onto the rural lane that takes you down into Church Village.

This is an easy route, mostly along paved surfaces. The nicest part is the lane running north of Church Village and the footpath connecting it with Treforest. There are signs informing walkers about the views to Pen y Fan and Somerset (not today though).
