Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

August 2022. Direction: Pontypridd to Caerphilly.

A nice easy walk along mostly cycle paths. Great for wheels of all types too.

It`s only a few steps from Pontypridd station and you`re into the lovely Ynysangharad Park following the river Taff. After leaving the park, there is a short section alongside the A4054 main road, but it`s only a short stretch, and then you`re on to the Taff Trail cycle route walking through long woodland sections. After crossing the busy A468 at Nantgarw, the path then leaves the Taff Trail and goes gently uphill to Caerphilly on the Penrhos Cutting, again through some lush broadleaved woodland. To finish off, there is a nice section within the Caerphilly suburbs through the Castle View Park.

This is a very nice route that follows the Taff trail between Pontypridd and Caerphilly. The route involves a lot of shaded woodland following the river and as it was a hot day this was very welcome. The path underfoot is concrete and well maintained so suitable for walkers of all ability as well as cyclists. You do follow the major A470 for a short section but this is unavoidable unfortunately, but the rest of the route is very scenic and quiet. The route finishes with a bit of a climb up to Caerphilly.

This was a pleasant walk from Pontypridd to Caerphilly. The walk consisted of mostly walking through shaded woodland along well-maintained paths with the occasional valley view of the hills beyond. The route itself was very easy to do with flat, concrete paths making up the majority of the walk.
