Connect Plymouth with Slow Ways
We’re creating a network of walking routes that connect all of Britain’s towns, cities and national parks
more walks and reviews are needed to fully connect Plymouth to the verified network. Can you give a hike and help?

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Plymouth’s Slow Ways.

Walk this routeThe path down to the cycle path at the end of Ridge Park Road in Plympton is narrow and steep with a big drop to the left. I do wonder if this might be the better route anyway - it's more direct and the road is quiet. The final section is along the cycle path by the A38. While it is a segregated cycle path, it is right beside the very fast moving traffic and is quite unpleasant as a walker - not exactly unsafe (although it would be very re-assuring if there was a barrier between the path and the road)....

At Montbatten point the path was closed from the ferry terminal in front of Mount Batten Hotel. If walking the opposite way from St Johns Road stay on Lawrence Road until you get to the ferry terminal - until the path re-opens!...

A nice safe route, mostly on pavements but some through the pleasant Devonport park. The ferry crossing is free for pedestrians....

This makes it a little less accesible than plyply two - walkers only I think. Overall, a great alternative to plyply two (which should probably be the canonical route)....

The route takes a direct route from Royal Parade down to The Barbican, and then across the Sutton Harbour pedestrian footbridge....

The route begins at the guild hall on Royal Parade , in the city centre. The current route diverts you through the pedestrianised city centre through the shops which is unnecessary, I would advise just walking up Royal Parade instead which would shave off 10 minutes....
Lara
A straight forward route which starts by unnecessarily taking you through a bit of the pedestrianised shopping area before doubling back and leading you through the picturesque Barbican, briefly onto the coastal path and through industrial Cattedown. You walk along busy main road from there until reaching the centre of Plymstock. All of which is well paved....

The stretch from city centre to Devonport Park is a bit long and not like the most thrilling stretch you’ve ever experienced (I feel like the route passes like 6 parks before finally entering Devonport Park), but it’s perfectly adequate, direct, safe, and pleasant for a Slow Ways route....

Nice walk through suburban streets, a peaceful stretch through Ham Woods and then good use of Central Park. Exeter City fans be warned: this route goes right past Home Park's Devonport End! No obstructions and good access throughout....

There are public toilets just past the Tamar Bridge near the toll booths, and on Central Park near the Life Centre. Traffic on the Tamar Bridge can get really busy at certain times, but there are cycle routes alongside the pedestrian footpath on the Bridge....
