Description
This is my local area & I have submitted a review of Plyivy one which in my opinion is not up to the required standard. This route is a suggested revision, it follows the same basic route concept correcting where it was inaccurately drawn, makes better use of existing routeways, & includes a local high street at about 10km for shop, cafes, public toilets, pubs & bus connections which the original route did not cover.
For much of is length this route follows the National Cycle Network routes 27 & 2

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

28 Oct 2023I walked this on 27th October 2023, from Plymouth to Ivybridge - in the pouring rain, which may colour some of my review!
On the whole, this is a great walk, and the improvements made in this revised version are very welcome. The walk out of Plymouth follows well known and well used routes. Walking along the Plym towards Saltram House is particularly nice, something I haven't done for years. The route into Plympton is easy to follow. The local shops in the high street were a good opportunity for a pit-stop.
After this, I had a few more niggles. The path down to the cycle path at the end of Ridge Park Road in Plympton is narrow and steep with a big drop to the left. In the rain it was muddy and slippy. It's only a very short section - but it would be better if an alternative could be found.
The walk through the fields on leaving Plympton was when the rain *really* started coming down - so unsurprisingly, the paths were very muddy. There were no real problems - but obviously be prepared! At Hemerdon Siding (SX 58376 57003) I took a shortcut along the road, missing out Venton and heading straight for Mount Pleasant. I'd had enough of muddy fields for the minute! I do wonder if this might be the better route anyway - it's more direct and the road is quiet.
The final section is along the cycle path by the A38. While it is a segregated cycle path, it is right beside the very fast moving traffic and is quite unpleasant as a walker - not exactly unsafe (although it would be very re-assuring if there was a barrier between the path and the road). Very quickly I began to really not enjoy this - so I nipped up a path into the industrial estate and walked there instead. This cut out a good chunk of the A38 and it might be worth re-drawing this route to go through the superstore and the industrial estate to cut out even more. Unfortunately, the last section approaching Ivybridge seems unavoidable - but part of it is a large layby, so it's the least bad section.
So, apart from the very last bit, this was a great walk. The end can be improved from that drawn to cut out the worst part of the A38 - and if an alternative to the steep narrow path in Pympton could be found, that would be even better. I've given 3 stars to reflect these slight issues - with them fixed it would be solid 4 star walk.
