Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

A nice safe route, mostly on pavements but some through the pleasant Devonport park. The ferry crossing is free for pedestrians.

I walked this route from Plymouth. I found it to be a really good route.

The stretch from city centre to Devonport Park is a bit long and not like the most thrilling stretch you’ve ever experienced (I feel like the route passes like 6 parks before finally entering Devonport Park), but it’s perfectly adequate, direct, safe, and pleasant for a Slow Ways route.

The stretch through the park is really quite lovely, and I always love a free chain ferry!

The route as drawn at both ends of the ferry aren’t super accurate, but I found it got me close enough to where I was trying to go that I could figure it out.

Overall, I ended up being really pleased with this one!.

An easy and direct route, along paved paths for the entire route. Some nice views and pleasant walking through Devonport Park. Some sections are a reminder that Plymouth is not all like that, but there are no dodgy backstreets or anything like that!

I walked in the Torpoint to Plymouth direction, having imported the route into OS maps, which I used to navigate.

The only section that needed some care was choosing the right paths through Devonport Park, but this was obvious from the OS map app.

Overall a nice walk.

Fine to walk or cycle, just a fair bit of traffic. The path at the bottom end of Valletort Road gets slippery in the rain.

The route through Devonport Park was scenic, with plenty of benches to rest on. Plus, the terrain is not too challenging, being flat and mostly in an urban environment.

The network of paths through Devonport Park could be a little confusing, and I did have to rely on Google Maps.

There are toilet facilities at the Torpoint Ferry port, and places to sit and grab something to eat around Devonport Park.

So this route pleasant, easy to traverse and not too confusing to navigate.
