Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

29 Mar 2022I enjoyed the route. It goes through some beautiful countryside to the west of Dartmoor and mostly follows the Plym trail. I hadn´t read the previous reviews before walking it, and I walked it as part of a 4 day walk following slowways trails from Exeter. I walked from Yelverton and can say I had no difficulty in following the trail. From yelverton it mostly uses the route of The Dartmoor Way, then picks up the Plym Trail and West Devon Way all of which are signed. You do leave the disused rail for some of the way, which as indicated and would prove difficult or nigh impossible for a wheelchair user as it has a ladder stile at one point. The option would be to continue the longer way and stay on the disused line.. A great and easy (flat) walk.

12 Aug 2021This route is scenic and easy to follow, until you get to Clearbrook. From there, I'm not even sure that I was even on the slow ways route. A signpost mentioned an "off-road path" to Yelverton, but good luck finding it. I had to ask locals the direction to Yelverton, and I managed to get there.
There are also accessibility issues. From Clearbrook to Yelverton, I noticed four turnstiles which could be a problem for wheelchair users.
I would be interested in a more direct route if one exists.

25 Jul 2021Incorporates part of National Cycling Network Route 27:
https://www.sustrans.org.uk/find-a-route-on-the-national-cycle-network/route-27/
As well as following the route of the old railway line there are options for more challenging and scenic detours through the woods either side of the main route.

06 Jun 2021This route links parts of the SW Coast Path, National Cycle Network (NCN) route 27 and the West Devon Way. It is generally safe and well signposted with lovely scenery and many interesting sites along the way.
However, a few points to note:-
- Wheelers and less nimble walkers would be advised to stick to the NCN route27 that takes you through Clearbrook, up the hill past the Skylark Inn and along the Drake's Trail.
- The section from Goodameavy almost to Yelverton uses the West Devon Way which is suitable for only the more adventurous wheeler and proficient walker as it takes in water meadow, farm tracks with a five bar gate and narrow woodland tracks with 3 stiles, 3 kissing gates and two short (20m) sections where tree roots, rocks and a steep incline combine to make passage particularly tricky.
- This route isn't as direct as you might want, especially for walkers. Walkers might head up North Hill and follow the A386 all the way to Roborough and once you're on the moor, pick up one of the many paths that head north across the moor to Yelverton. (Maybe I should try to create an alternate route).
