Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Saltash’s Slow Ways.

Walk this routeThe route is reasonably accurate apart from one point where it tells you to walk through an impenetrable row of houses!...

That said, it’s perfectly good and has some really cool moments of beauty along the way. Unfortunately, I don’t think I can give this route more than three stars, but it really isn’t a bad walk, and it’s perfectly fine for the slow ways network!...

Without adding much to the shortest route, this brings the pleasure of Ham Woods and Central Park to an otherwise urban yomp....

Just SW of Callington the route follows a right of way across a field; this is marked on the OS map but the farmer obviously ignored the memos about maintaining public access. An alternative route out of Callington to Newbridge which would avoid this difficult section could be via Frogwell Lane. Vehicles will approach at pace with relatively little warning of your presence due to the way the road turns and the number of trees. Once across, however, the section along the river is a real highlight of the route. At OS ref SX341666 (What3Words: seaweed.eliminate.canyons) the route on the website turns east over a field and then across the River Lynher, before taking a path south towards Pillaton. Just past the Waitrose at Saltash, the route turns east, downhill along a bridleway. As a local, I would definitely advise not bothering with this off-road section: about half of it is right next to the A38 dual carriageway anyway; the remainder offers little in the way of nice scenery other than a brief view of the River Tamar from (almost) sea level, before a steep climb back up into Saltash town. Instead, take the footbridge across the A38 and continue south into Saltash, past the industrial estates, and down into the town centre via Callington Road, past Saltash FC and Longstone Park....

Nice walk through suburban streets, a peaceful stretch through Ham Woods and then good use of Central Park. Exeter City fans be warned: this route goes right past Home Park's Devonport End! No obstructions and good access throughout....

So this route is easy to follow, not very challenging, but just don't expect it to be pretty once you get past the River Tamar....
Tom
There are public toilets just past the Tamar Bridge near the toll booths, and on Central Park near the Life Centre. Traffic on the Tamar Bridge can get really busy at certain times, but there are cycle routes alongside the pedestrian footpath on the Bridge....
