Help connect Lydford

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Lydford’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates

An excellent route using the Granite Way, maybe less interesting than other options which go off the tarmac, but this is an easy and well maintained, direct walking/cycling route which is highly recommended for great views, especially around Meldon. There are also options for refreshment at either end and the Pedal and Pump at Sourton Cross....

in this case I left Launceston and it was fine until joining the busy A388 by the rugby club, which had too much traffic to be safe until a pavement beside it appeared at Liftondown....

We diverted south towards the end so we could approach lydford through the National Trust managed Lydford gorge , whiteladys waterfall, devils cauldron and approach the village so the first things we saw were the historic church....

Walk this route

It does have stiles and muddy sections, but made for a good walk away from the shared walking/cycle route of the Granite Way. Could be combined with one of those returns to make a good circular route....

Walk this route

I walking from Okehampton, after leaving the golf course and entering a field of pasture, care is needed after about 200 metres of following the field boundary on your right, look for a large to your left (to the south) this leads you on to the Granite way....

Walk this route

This is an easy to walk (or wheel) and easy to navigate route with some spectacular views. It is a shared route and at weekends and holidays the way is very popular, moreso with cyclists than walkers. But my experience was that cyclists were travelling reasonably slowly and the route is wide so that I always felt comfortable walking the route....

Lovely walk, plenty off road and the country roads we did walk on were very quiet. Definitely recommend this route....

Walk this route

The way is easy to follow and doesn't involve too much challenge in that direction (the other is more climbing than descent) A few ladder stiles and serious muddy spots make this a truly country walk and difficult for my large dog despite lots of it being well marked and easy road or grass path....
