Navigation is needed from Merrivale to Princetown to avoid a long walk in on the B3312....

Tim Ryan added Okepri three, a new walk from Okehampton to Princetown
Walk this routeI walked it in early September in variable conditions, which included, sun early on, then rain followed by mist. The route crosses both Okehampton and Merryvale ranges....
Tim Ryan
It does have stiles and muddy sections, but made for a good walk away from the shared walking/cycle route of the Granite Way. Could be combined with one of those returns to make a good circular route....

Tim Ryan added Lydoke three, a new walk from Lydford to Okehampton
Walk this routeI walking from Okehampton, after leaving the golf course and entering a field of pasture, care is needed after about 200 metres of following the field boundary on your right, look for a large to your left (to the south) this leads you on to the Granite way....
Tim Ryan
This is an easy to walk (or wheel) and easy to navigate route with some spectacular views. It is a shared route and at weekends and holidays the way is very popular, moreso with cyclists than walkers. But my experience was that cyclists were travelling reasonably slowly and the route is wide so that I always felt comfortable walking the route....
Tim Ryan
Mostly on lanes but a lovely wooded walk early on and also across Hatherleigh Moor at end, so some variety. Also some fabulous views of Dartmoor. Might be a bit boggy across moor if there has been a lot of rain but this can be avoided by using the lane instead....
Jane Gough
Most of it is along quiet lanes, but there is a nice wooded section at the beginning and a great walk over Hatherleigh Moor at the end. The views across to Dartmoor are fantastic. If you walk the same direction as I did, remember to look behind you for the views....

I walked from North Tawton to Okehampton, and after walking downhill from the middle of the town got on to the Tarka Trail via a weird and narrow turnstile - who's idea was that?? It's short though, and then the route is all quiet country lanes to Okehampton, sometimes with great views, and very peaceful....
Helen Gough
Plenty of quiet Lane walking with just a shortish walk across fields which could have been much much worse considering the amount of rain....

Helen Gough added Okenor three, a new walk from Okehampton to North Tawton
Walk this routeI attempted to walk this on 25 Nov 2023 heading from Chagford to Okehampton but the stepping stones crossing of the river Teign 1.5 miles from Chagford was impassable. I rejoined the Okecha route at Throwleigh and followed it to the edge of Okehampton where I cut through a nicer way into the town via Ball Hill woods....

The train station is up the hill from the town centre so if coming by train and you have no particular need to go into the town, you could follow a bridleway signed ‘tramlines bridleway’, which leads west-east from station road immediately adjacent to the station entrance, and join the slow way just past Ball Hill viaduct. The route soon heads off-road again following a bridleway to Sticklepath. After Sticklepath the slow way picks up the Dartmoor Way promoted route, which it then largely follows to Chagford, with just a slight deviation just past South Zeal (South Zeal has pubs and shops and wcs), following quiet lanes and footpaths to Throwleigh, passing through a secret meadow. The route finishes on quiet lanes again entering Chagford, a very nice little town with a good choice of independent shops, pubs and cafés....
Helen C
Plenty of places to stop and rest, cafes to grab refreshments and the day we went, not many people about....
Carlyn Gough
But overall a perfect route if you prefer an easy flat walk....
Jane Gough
I intended to walk this route from Lydford, but the bus broke down, so we hired bikes and cycled it both ways instead....
Helen Gough
This route mostly follows the Granite Way which is on the old railway line....
Charles Hedley
Charles Hedley added Lydoke two, a new walk from Lydford to Okehampton
Walk this routeThe walk is mostly on quiet country lanes, with a section of the walk leaving Okehampton on track and a section skirting the edge of Abbeyford Wood which again is a section of track. One short section is on the main road without a path, but this is no more than 50 yards in length. The walk would be accessible to most, although there is a narrow bridge just at the start of the route when leaving Okehampton. Some sections can be quite steep with a total elevation gain recorded as 281 mtrs and 351 mtrs of descent....
