Help connect Launceston

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Launceston’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates

A marsh, in the deepest section had broken boardwalks and in the next section, along the waymrked southern boundary of the woods, the marsh was back again (no sign of a boardwalk). If N's alternative route to Launceton checks out and if the issue with Tokenbury woods could be sorted - at least for good weather - I would want to keep this as a somewhat challenging but very enjoyable slowways option...

Walk this route

Overall, much of the route is fine for walkers (except along the B3254 from Langdon's Farm to St Stephen's which is highly dangerous for all), but stiles, narrow bridges, rough pasture (sometimes with livestock), steep gradients on lanes and fields, and steps make it unsuitable for wheelers. The drawn route is fine from here along single track, very quiet lanes with little traffic to North Down. On rejoining the path and bridleway, once again farmland, steep gradients and livestock are encountered as well as ground that would be very boggy and muddy in wet weather....

At SX36857 80296 it crosses the Tamar river at Greystone Bridge which has no pavement and is traffic light controlled for vehicles. At the Greystone Bridge the route turns immediately left to pick up a little used footpath....

View facilities

It is on a quite busy rural road, it is the main road between Launceston and Liskeard, with very poor visibility for walkers and drivers. I would feel unsafe walking this route, others may find it ok if they are used to walking with traffic and do not have children or dogs with them....
