Help connect Gomshall
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Gomshall’s Slow Ways.

All the usual town centre amenities in Guildford. The Millbrook footbridge over a weir near Guildford town centre is closed so requires a short diversion onto the adjacent Shalford Road pavement between High Street and the Weyside pub....
Berkshire Walker
A lovely, easily navigable route. Quite hilly, could be a bit muddy in winter. Beautiful views....
john
A lovely easily accessible walk which does pass through a working sawmill which may be a hazard if walking with small children/dogs...
john
Just stick to the cycle path and you’ll rejoin the route....
Muddyboots
A little care needed crossing the A25, and then back into a pleasant woodland stroll until the Alpine descent to Gomshall (or Silent Pool if you duck out a little early). The walk up to St Martha’s is moderate but the reward of the views to the south is worth it....

Also I recommend to take certain amount of water as you won’t find any store or etc to have water throughout the walk. This route doesn’t show in google maps I would recommend to use os maps or slow ways maps....

I stopped for lunch at Shere having walked from Horsley through Gomshall....

I started at Horsley Station then alongside the railway to track through West Horsley Place....

I got a little confused after getting to Gomshall, as the public footpath (photo #12) doesn't start where the map shows, but instead at the south east end of the public car park just north of where the map shows it to be....

There were often great view of the North Downs (photo #1, #5, #7). Getting into Guildford is along the Mile Path which is a fairly long ascent (photo #10, #11), but again, has great view from the top (photo #12)....

From the station it is a short walk down the hill to walk along a busy-ish Dorking Road for a very short stretch. You come out of the copses (photo #5) along some houses to walk a short stretch again along the A25/Coast Hill (photo #6), before heading upwards towards Westcott Heath (photo #7). The route as drawn brings you down towards Coldharbour Lane and Falkland Road, but it's better to follow the Greensand Way along Nower Road and "The Struggle", as it avoids a busy (but short) section of road walking (photo #13)....
Derick Rethans
(If it is any help, when you get to a post with a choice of Green Dene or Shere Lane car parks you head in the Green Dene direction.). After you cross the Green Dene road some of the path is quite steep and I would imagine hard walking in wet weather....
porcovolente
This part is quite a large ascent up Pewley hill but otherwise it's a fair easy walk, the path near Albury can get very narrow and overgrown....
Ryan
This made for an enjoyable walk when linked with Gomeas2 for a return journey....
Tim Ryan
A safe route one section along Colekitchen lane at Gomsall is along a narrow lane....
Tim Ryan
When I did this (March 2022), it was not long after the UK had a string of storms that felled a number of trees, so there were a few trees that blocked the path, but mostly could be walked around....

You climb a bit to Guildford, but you are rewarded with a fantastic view of the Surrey Hills before the descent into Guildford central, quite long and steep....

The detail of the route plotting could be improved, there are decision/ junction points at which the route is unclear (for example, the route around the church at the very end). Most of the route is on footpaths, the parts on road are on quiet roads and so quite suitable for walking with care. There are multiple stiles and uneven terrain so it may not be suitable for everyone....
Sarah Alexander
Mixture of walking through woodland & farmland, ending in the historic market town of Dorking....

This is a very good and pretty well direct route between Gomshall and Dorking, avoiding the hills of the North Downs....
Downsize
This is an attractive route on major paths, with excellent views over Surrey and West Sussex. from St Martha’s Hill and Newlands Corner. Surfaces should be fine for walkers when dry, though the parts on the North Downs can become muddy in winter and very wet periods...
