Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

02 Apr 2023I walked this from Gomshall to Dorking on a grey Saturday morning, with very recent rain showers.
From the station it is a short walk down the hill to walk along a busy-ish Dorking Road for a very short stretch. You soon find yourself in Piney Copse (photo #1), which the route follows for quite some time, with excellent views of the North Downs (photo #2). The path was only a tiny bit muddy in some places here, even also when you pass Leasers Barn (photo #3). Then there is a long stretch along the perimeter of a field, again, with great views of the valley and North Downs (photo #4). You come out of the copses (photo #5) along some houses to walk a short stretch again along the A25/Coast Hill (photo #6), before heading upwards towards Westcott Heath (photo #7). The path here was a little narrow and fairly muddy (photo #8). There is a little bit of walk through a narrow both-side-fenced footpath (photo #9) before coming out on the lovely Milton Street (photo #10). You follow this for a short section, before going through another fenced footpath (photo #11). The route continues along a empty track, before heading towards and through the Nower's open fields (photo #12). The route as drawn brings you down towards Coldharbour Lane and Falkland Road, but it's better to follow the Greensand Way along Nower Road and "The Struggle", as it avoids a busy (but short) section of road walking (photo #13). The walk into Dorking is full of shops (photo #14).
I really enjoyed this walk, and thoroughly recommend it. Almost so much that I want to walk it again when the weather is a lot nicer. If only the trains to Gomshall would go more often than once every two hours (on a Saturday).

14 Mar 2022I really enjoyed this walk, which I did from Dorking to Gomshall. Great variety of woodland, views, and little corridors through houses. Bonus is going through Piney Copse. A few parts of the trail require steps and have some tree roots. When I did this (March 2022), it was not long after the UK had a string of storms that felled a number of trees, so there were a few trees that blocked the path, but mostly could be walked around. And I'm sure these will be removed soon. Ended in Gomshall, where you can find some shops, cafes, and restaurants.

02 May 2021Views of the North Downs for much of the route.
Mixture of walking through woodland & farmland, ending in the historic market town of Dorking.
