Help connect Fulham

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Fulham’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates

As you get nearer to Clapham junction station the roads get a little busier and the environment a bit noisier; but it’s not that long a section, and overall it’s a very easy walk....

You emerge onto the riverfront opposite Chelsea River Bridge with the beautiful spire of a small church across the Thames to your left. Lots of modern apartments here, with beautiful views of the river....

A level, easy walk mostly along a vibrant Kings Road, with a slight quieter detour along Lamont Road passage and then past the Chelsea football ground at Stamford Bridge....

Apart from crossing a moderately busy Kings Road, all the rest of the walking is along quiet residential streets or parks....

This route was great with some notable green spots (William Parnell Park and Eel Brook Common) as well as the Thames views. Apart from the bridge (which is now clear of works) the roads were quiet. Fulham Broadway shopping centre has public toilets and a Sainsbury's store....

The bridge was nicest, the busy stretch in Putney the least as it was so busy....

Normally I avoid walking the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, as it is so anti-pedestrian (and anti-cycling)....

I agree with the earlier reviewer - this is a pleasant walk but there isn't a huge amount to comment on. The late Victorian housing around the middle of the route was the most notable thing for me....

As well as the Charing Cross Hospital, the route passes the Queen's Club - probably the second-best known Tennis club in the country but it also claims to be the first multi-sport venue in the world....

Walked this route Hammersmith to Fulham and once away from the busy traffic around Hammersmith station the route is quieter, especially through the cemetery, which as other reviewers have said is only open during the day which varies depending on the time of year....

Walk this route

For an inner city route it's got quite a good feel with less busy roads, especially with the fairly long section through Brompton Cemetery which is great but is only open during the day. It opens at 7am and closes between 4pm and 8pm depending on the season....

On the Fulham side of the river the route is about as good as it can be, using mostly quiet roads, touching base at Parsons Green, and making good use of Eel Brook Common (photo)....

It is however an interesting and photogenic leisure walk, taking in Chelsea Football ground, Kings Road/Lots Road area, Chelsea Harbour, and a fair amount of riverside walking both north and south banks. There was a small diversion just before Wandsworth Bridge where the riverside path is closed temporarily due to development, but it is well signposted. If you want a more direct route between Fulham and Clapham Junction I recommend Fulcla Two....

The challenge is that the most direct route would follow a busy polluted road, so I have searched out a less direct but much more pleasant route which I think now works well. (A very direct route would continue along the main road, only for people with robust lungs who don't mind the traffic, I'm out on both counts). All in all I am pleased with this route, which fills the gap for a more direct Slow Way option in a very acceptable way....

The only part I would change is to walk straight through Hammersmith Broadway shopping centre, between the Meeting Point and the top of Fulham Palace Road, rather than walk outside around the Broadway, which is always very traffic-y....
