Help connect Kensington
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Kensington’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates
Both ends have good transport hubs, but Paddington is particularly good having been recently renovated....
DaveHilton
Plenty of amenities nearby as you’d expect from London, and lots of quiet roads and green space. All whilst being direct....
DaveHilton
A good direct easy to navigate route with lots of interest along the way....
Strider
Building work had closed the pavement one side but lots of safe crossing points, and it worth meandering to and fro to see all the points of interest. Good route, good for wheels....
Strider
Normally I avoid walking the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, as it is so anti-pedestrian (and anti-cycling)....
Derick Rethans
I *mostly* followed this route, but only because I walk here very often and went on autopilot → I got into the park at Porchester Terrace. It's a good route though, except for the really busy part on Kensingon High Street. Just too many people....
Derick Rethans
It's along Hammersmith road all the way but this road was relatively quiet and calm. This route takes in the iconic Design Museum, Holland Park and the Olympia conference centre....
Slow Ways Darren
There aren't any sign posts in the Kensington Gardens (which would be a nice addition) but if you head through the park and head diagonally towards Lancaster Gate it's pretty straight forward....
Slow Ways Darren
The interesting setting enabled a number of interesting conversations among our group...
Tom Morris
For an inner city route it's got quite a good feel with less busy roads, especially with the fairly long section through Brompton Cemetery which is great but is only open during the day. It opens at 7am and closes between 4pm and 8pm depending on the season....
Dan Barron
A pleasant walk mostly through Kensington Park....
Paul Chilcott
A lovely mostly off-road route through Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park. A real gem in the capital....
Paul Chilcott
This route is both terribly inaccurately drawn, and has access issues (like going in between the museums)....
Derick Rethans
It's not too much out of what I really walked in Hyde Park, so I am not going to bother with a new route....
Derick Rethans
The section that goes parallel along Kensington High Road isn't the *nicest*, but it's certainly a lot better than the congested Kensington High Road (from Sheken one). I also hadn't realised Holland Park was on a hill :-). Holland Park Avenue, albeit a bit busy with pedestrians, was a nicer walk than I had remembered....
Derick Rethans
mtormey added Kenpad three, a new walk from Kensington to Paddington Station
Walk this routeThis route meets up with the Jubilee Greenway walk on the Broad Walk in front of Kensington Palace and follows that route through the streets along the side of Paddington Station....

Derick Rethans added Sheken two, a new walk from Shepherds Bush to Kensington
Walk this routeA little better would be to walk past Olympia and use Sinclair Road/Richmond Road on the western side, and to walk on the north side of KHR. Going along Holland Walk instead would also improve this....
Derick Rethans
There is a more scenic route available as this is pretty much a straight stroll down Kensington High street and Hammersmith Road. Not unpleasant but not particularly exiting....
LondonIn360
It goes past Brook Green, the cafe/ kiosk is fab (I'd recommend the cheese toastie and elderflower slushy). The walk through Holland Park is really pleasant, if you have time to spare I'd recommend visiting the Kyoto Garden. I'd highly recommend this route!...
Saira
A direct, safe and accessible route from Kensington to Chelsea, through some very handsome residential streets. There's a cafe along the way in case you want some refreshments, but agree with the reviewer below, options are limited. All in all a good route that gets you from A to B...
Saira
The last section drops you into Kensington High Street via some high end residential streets....
David Sanderson
A safe and reasonably direct route making the most of quieter residential streets....
David Sanderson
If you can do steps it is far better than going along the road, but if this isn't possible, you'd have to go to the main road to cross over....
Ingrina
If I were rating based on interest, character, or beauty, I would probably score this a 3, but for quiet and direct, it is a 5, so I'm giving it a 4 as a compromise....
Ingrina
I would definitely walk this route again in preference to staying on the main road....
Jane Taylor
A really fantastic route, offering some really fantastic urban adventuring....
mtormey
Jane Taylor added Hamken two, a new walk from Hammersmith to Kensington
Walk this routeEfficient route between Chelsea (Kings Road) and Kensington (High Street) which sticks to the quieter streets. I didn’t find it especially inspiring, and found myself wondering if there might be some quirkier, more interesting, twists and turns to make it more memorable. A good Slow Way nevertheless and worth its snail!...
Jane Taylor
Lovely walk between Kensington and Paddington through Kensington Gardens. The streets at either end are busy and cluttered, but the central section is green and organised. Good Slow Ways route - easy to follow, direct abd and pleasant....
Jane Taylor
This route is quite good, but there are some serious inaccuracies in the gpx file. I've uploaded an alternative that is much more accurate....
mtormey
The stretch from South Kensington north through to Kensington High Street is quite lovely, with quiet residential and lovely shopping streets....
mtormey
You won't necessarily catch me raving about the route, but I have absolutely no complaints and I'm certain it's one of the best possible ways to get between Kensington and Chelsea....
mtormey
The pavements are wide and flat, so it's not entirely unpleasant, and there are some moments of joy to be had - especially after the route turns onto Kensington High Street. I'll see if I can upload an alternative that's slightly better......
mtormey
Overall, a great Slow Ways route, and one I'd happily recommend again....
mtormey
I've only dinged a star because the last bit along Kensington High Street is longer than my patience for the traffic-soaked mess that is Kensington High Street can take....
mtormey
The route starts on Kensington High Street and has a lot of traffic and people, but soon it turns off into Kensington Gardens. At around the half way point, where Kensington Gardens turns into Hyde Park, I stopped for refreshments at the Pavilion cafe, which is right by the path....
Jane Taylor
Walked Hammersmith to Kensington on a quiet Bank Holiday Monday....
Jane Taylor
Flat walking no steps and through lots of roads of beautiful and expensive houses. Limited refreshment opportunities as mostly restaurants. Fully accessible and safe...
Lizbiz70
This route is a direct route but unfortunately following a very busy road. Very high levels of pollution on a hot day. I walked down the wrong road but was easily able to rejoin the route....
Lizbiz70
This is a good, direct and mostly off-road route that makes good use of Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens....
