Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Hammersmith’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates
Plenty of amenities nearby as you’d expect from London, and lots of quiet roads and green space. All whilst being direct....
DaveHilton
Building work had closed the pavement one side but lots of safe crossing points, and it worth meandering to and fro to see all the points of interest. Good route, good for wheels....
Strider
Once you leave aside the busy high street of Putney, and make it to the river (photo #1, #2) it is a really lovely walk....
Derick Rethans
As well as the Charing Cross Hospital, the route passes the Queen's Club - probably the second-best known Tennis club in the country but it also claims to be the first multi-sport venue in the world....
Martin McGovern
But for those who like watching the shops change, from shabby to chic (or the reverse, depending on the direction), this is a good one....
Martin McGovern
A quiet, pleasant, straightforward route through residential streets and across a little park with a cafe. Recommended....
Mockymock
Play spot the posh SUV outside the tiny mansions as you stroll happily onwards....
Steve_Roser
It's along Hammersmith road all the way but this road was relatively quiet and calm. This route takes in the iconic Design Museum, Holland Park and the Olympia conference centre....
Slow Ways Darren
A lot of traffic both car and foot! Still an interesting area...
Tom Morris
Walked this route Hammersmith to Fulham and once away from the busy traffic around Hammersmith station the route is quieter, especially through the cemetery, which as other reviewers have said is only open during the day which varies depending on the time of year....
Dan Barron
Following the route through Acton Park exactly takes you across the grass including through a muddy puddle....
GoodGym Sevan
- tree roots at Ravenscourt Park path can be a trip hazard...
GoodGym Kash
A fairly flat route, mostly on pavements so limited potential for muddy sections! Route through Acton Park does direct over the grass, but the path runs adjacent, so could be used as alternative. Some narrow/uneven sections where tree routes have broken up the pavement, but generally ok to walk....
Jen
Really nice route along the river with the majority of the walk being away from roads. The start and the end have small sections on busy roads but once you hit the river it is a lovely walk. Some nice cafe's restaurants and pubs along the riverfront as well which makes it ideal for a short walk or stopping as part of a longer one...
Dannyash
There is a more scenic route available as this is pretty much a straight stroll down Kensington High street and Hammersmith Road. Not unpleasant but not particularly exiting....
LondonIn360
This is a very nice easy going route along the river. Nice alternative to the South Bank option....
LondonIn360
It goes past Brook Green, the cafe/ kiosk is fab (I'd recommend the cheese toastie and elderflower slushy). The walk through Holland Park is really pleasant, if you have time to spare I'd recommend visiting the Kyoto Garden. I'd highly recommend this route!...
Saira
The path is wide, and the route is an especially good one for birders as you can often spot birds visiting the nearby London Wetland Centre....
Saira
The last section drops you into Kensington High Street via some high end residential streets....
David Sanderson
If you can do steps it is far better than going along the road, but if this isn't possible, you'd have to go to the main road to cross over....
Ingrina
The path along the river gives you lovely views of London on both sides, and the path is very wide for the many people who use it for walking and cycling. It's a great, relaxing atmosphere in general....
Ingrina
The walk into the sea of traffic which is Hammersmith is a short shock but crossing is well managed and the upside is a plethora of refreshment and travel options....
David Sanderson
I would definitely walk this route again in preference to staying on the main road....
Jane Taylor
A really fantastic route, offering some really fantastic urban adventuring....
mtormey
Putney High Street is a good one for food and shops, and the last approach to Hammersmith is car-y but very short....

Jane Taylor added Hamken two, a new walk from Hammersmith to Kensington
Walk this routeAgree withe comments of the previous reviewer once you have made it from Hammersmith Broadway and there are a couple of ways to get to the river, then the bridge is now reduced to one way down the paths either side of the roadway....
John Mickleburgh
Walked Hammersmith to Kensington on a quiet Bank Holiday Monday....
Jane Taylor
Excellent short route that stays away from busy roads and passes through the quieter back streets between Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush. Greenery at Brook Green, and you may catch some pop stars (and their fans) hanging out at the K West hotel too! Easy flat walking, no steps, safe road crossings, better than the bus and well worth 5 stars...
Jane Taylor
Not the most pleasant slow ways route I’ve ever walked, but it definitely does the job of connecting these two points with a safe, direct, and accessible link!...
mtormey
There were shops and interesting buildings, and the route is nice and short, delivering you to the Shepherds Bush area surprisingly quickly....
mtormey
Now that Hammersmith Bridge is open for pedestrians again, time to walk and review this route....
Jane Taylor
The only part I would change is to walk straight through Hammersmith Broadway shopping centre, between the Meeting Point and the top of Fulham Palace Road, rather than walk outside around the Broadway, which is always very traffic-y....
Jane Taylor
The route passes through 3 parks (they do close overnight so this isn't a 24 hour route), has several tempting refreshment stops, is reasonably direct, and accurately drawn so no dangerous road crossings. A top urban Slow Way - Full marks from me....
Jane Taylor
It was fascinating to watch the way Hammersmith dissolves out and Chiswick dissolves in. Plenty of diverting shops - food, groceries, coffee, charity shops, books....
Jane Taylor
It is a good direct route, largely off-road, although I do prefer the leafier alternative Hamput One, which crosses the river on Hammersmith Bridge....
Jane Taylor
This route takes you north from Hammersmith Broadway, up Shepherd's Bush Road passing alongside Brook Green, before cutting diagonally across Shepherd's Bush Green and then joining Uxbridge Road to end Shepherd's Bush Underground/Overground stations....
custardtart
It's not an unpleasant walk along King St and the Chiswick High Road....
