Help connect Christchurch
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Christchurch’s Slow Ways.

The scenery was beautiful, we were lucky that the weather was good making the walk one enjoyed by everyone....

In terms of this being reasonably simple and direct , this is a perfect route to follow to get between Bournemouth and Christchurch. There are well established footpaths/ pavement all the way, some alongside roads that are 30 mph max so a safe route. Lovely long and gentle walk along the beach promenade included! I agree with route creator there are some other more aesthetic possible routes, but this is ideal for directness and actually the street walking is not that bad, especially if you like admiring the houses as you walk by. :)...

On 21 August 2023, I walked this route as part of the National Parks Trail. - The coastal walk from Mudeford to Highcliffe is fine, but a lot of the route is soft sand, making walking tiring....

Walk this routeFairly direct route, runs alongside a fairly busy road for a stretch in Christchurch....

Most of it very accessible although very last bit of chewton bunny - slope leading up to A337 a little uneven and might me tricky with those who are using wheels- see photo. If using wheels, when entering chewton bunny from Highcliffe cliff top, go as far as little bridge where stream disappears underground and take left fork of path (sloping upwards) to avoid large stairs a bit further along trail....

Turn right onto Stanpit road after the little car park and scout building....

For part of the route between Bisterne and Avon Tyrell you are forced to walk alongside a busy road route acts as the main route between Christchurch and Ringwood which makes the route hazardous. Sadly Not suitable at the moment unless you are a hardy experienced walker or until this route is well maintained again....

I'd say this was 3⭐- 5⭐ - 3⭐ like a lot of the New Forest Slow Ways!...

This is for doing the walk from west to east (ie Bournemouth to Christchurch): At the point where the route starts to turn inland, carry on along the prom until you reach Point House Slope. Walk up here and carry on straight ahead along Harbour rd. At the end, follow cycle way 2 to Tuckton, Iford and Christchurch, then walk through Wick Fields Nature Reserve and then along the riverside to Tuckton Bridge where you rejoin the original route. You can also cut through Druit Gardens from Wick Lane to come out on the High Street at the library, where the route ends. This route is slightly longer, but much more pleasant:) There are various food and drink outlets, and public toilets along the way....
