Help connect Ringwood
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Ringwood’s Slow Ways.

Walk this routeLoved walking this route, especially seeing a big group of gorgeous donkeys! It was a real treat to do in during autumn too. I recommend this route for sure....

This is a great route for walking between Ringwood and Brockenhurst. I'm sure someone could design another route that is longer and includes less lane walking, but it would be much further....

Walk this routeI really enjoyed walking this route between Totton and Ringwood. If you dislike walking on lanes, you might not enjoy this route....

Walk this routeIt is a National Speed Limit road and sees a lot of fast-moving traffic owing to being one of the main arteries for motorists travelling in and out of the New Forest. Approaching as I did from the east, while I could see that I needed to cross the road, I had no idea what was waiting on the other side and whether it would be suitable. As it happens below the level of the road there is a wide verge, though it is has not been designed with any pedestrian or wheel traffic in mind. I was fortunate that the grass had recently been mown, but still it was quite uneven and had several perpendicular gutters dug into the earth along its length to capture run-off from the road - had the grass not been cut I doubt I would have noticed then until upon them. 5) Leaving Totton itself wasn't nearly as unpleasant as I'd expected. The pavement/cycle path along the A336 is for the most part wide with some sections separated from the road by a verge. 9) It also has two old narrow footbridges, one crossing Ringwood Ford Bottom and another on the Right of Way approaching Ringwood. The latter resolves to a narrow 50m-long footpath studded with tree roots and a stile access. 14) Leaving the Highland Water Enclosure and taking the road under the A31 feels a little strange as a non-motorist, but the road is wide, visibility is good, and vehicles were infrequent and seemed to drive with care. 15) As long as you don't mind the constant sound fast-moving traffic nearby, the track which runs parallel to the A31 was quite novel and had wide vistas of the heather-covered plains to the north. Some sections were fairly uneven and others steep with loose stones/gravel, however....

It was there our first stile which led to a very muddy path before entering Burley. The walk took us through a well walked, cycled path with vegetation either side, under the road to a muddy stretch, before entering a beautiful forest that eventually led to Brockenhurst....
Diane Cannon
This is very much a walk of two halves, with Ringwood to Burley very much along tarmac roads and the Burley to Brockenhurst section along tracks and country paths....
Martin Cannon
This route can be divided into 2 sections with the first leading from Ringwood to Burley and the second from Burley to Brockenhurst train station. However, if one does not follow the route at the turn off at at the start of Castle Hill Lane, but continues along Ringwood Road (very narrow at places!), one can avoid the above obstacles and reach the centre of Burley via this alternative....

Walk this routeFor part of the route between Bisterne and Avon Tyrell you are forced to walk alongside a busy road route acts as the main route between Christchurch and Ringwood which makes the route hazardous. Sadly Not suitable at the moment unless you are a hardy experienced walker or until this route is well maintained again....
Vassblanc
Quiet lanes from Ringwood Centre cross the High Street and lead to Bickerley Greeen and the entrance to the Castleman trailway (pic1). The next section curves slowly to the left before we find the entrance to Moors Valley Country Park on the RHS (pic6). Leaving the Visitor Centre towards the Moors Valley Railway (pic10)....
Rovert
There are several options along the route to exit the path such as Moors Valley Country Park which has a cafe & facilities for walkers & cyclists....
Rovert
First bit, exiting Ringwood, is alongside the A31 trunk road, not so good, but walkers quickly move onto the Castleman Trail, an old railway line and the 4m walk to West Moors is a lovely tree-lined wide flat trail that can be done by disabled people....
