Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

03 Mar 2024In terms of this being reasonably simple and direct , this is a perfect route to follow to get between Bournemouth and Christchurch. There are well established footpaths/ pavement all the way, some alongside roads that are 30 mph max so a safe route. Lovely long and gentle walk along the beach promenade included! I agree with route creator there are some other more aesthetic possible routes, but this is ideal for directness and actually the street walking is not that bad, especially if you like admiring the houses as you walk by. :).

04 Oct 2022Fairly direct route, runs alongside a fairly busy road for a stretch in Christchurch.

02 May 2021 (edited 27 Jun 2023)The route is entirely on tarmac with no barriers to negotiate. Going from Bournemouth to Christchurch, the first 2/3 of the route is pleasant as it follows the promenade along the seafront, with beautiful views to the Purbecks in the west (behind you) and Hengistbury Head and the Isle of Wight to the east. The last section, however, when you head inland towards Christchurch, is entirely on roads, some of which are very busy. There is always a safe pavement to use, but it still isn't very pleasant. I don't know if I'll be able to upload an alternative suggestion to the site, but I will describe it here. This is for doing the walk from west to east (ie Bournemouth to Christchurch): At the point where the route starts to turn inland, carry on along the prom until you reach Point House Slope. Walk up here and carry on straight ahead along Harbour rd. At the end, follow cycle way 2 to Tuckton, Iford and Christchurch, then walk through Wick Fields Nature Reserve and then along the riverside to Tuckton Bridge where you rejoin the original route. You can also cut through Druit Gardens from Wick Lane to come out on the High Street at the library, where the route ends. This route is slightly longer, but much more pleasant:) There are various food and drink outlets, and public toilets along the way. Also plenty of benches!.

02 May 2024Yes. The change suggested by Radarjo is an improvement on the original route. And there’s a nice tearoom at Tuckton Bridge.
