Description
This route diverts from much of the Avon Valley path from Christchurch to Burton (as the path ways are increasingly becoming waterlogged /flooded. BCP have recently closed this part of the path for the time being for this very reason). This new route also avoids a part of the path that runs between Bisterne and Bickerley common- for two reasons- a small part of the route involves walking along a verge that hugs a very busy 50mph stretch of road and also the later parts of the path have again have been affected by flooding several times (as you head nearer Bickerley Common). The new route does involve some road routes however these are mostly smaller and quiet lanes, used less by cars. There is a small stretch between North Ripley and Sandford that does involve walking along a verge of a fairly busy road however this is a 40mph hour road so somewhat better than the Bisterne-Bickerley stretch in the original route. The ease of this route is still very much dependent on the season like the original route between Christchurch and Ringwood but this seems to be unavoidable when trying to find a reasonably direct route between the two towns. Perhaps not so suitable for wheels and would definitely require good sturdy waterproof walking boots or wellies in the winter months as some of the ground is very waterlogged still and with very soft ground

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
