Help connect Weybridge

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Weybridge’s Slow Ways.

Mostly flat but occasionally muddy along the river path....

Walk this route

The first section in Weybridge is a little annoying due to road, but soon it starts following lovely paths (photo #1, #2), along the Engine River (photo #3). The (short) section along the Thames is nice (photo #4), but then unfortunately the section towards the finish requires some walking next to traffic (photo #5, #6)....

Walk this route

It is a short section, starting along residential roads (photo #1) until reaching the Coxes Mill Pond and lock (photo #2)....

It's fairly accessible, only a few roads to cross and narrow paths at some instances, but overall it's lovely and quite short...

This route uses an all year ferry across the Thames at Shepperton. It costs £3 - you can pay on board or at the coffee shop on the Shepperton side. If ferry is not running, or you don’t want to use it, I suggest that from Shepperton you walk to Walton bridge and cross there (I’ll probably put this in as a route option for Ashford to Walton.) Then you can walk to Weybridge on the south side of the river....

Walk this route

The Addlestone section of this walk is through housing, but the remainder is picturesque and pleasant along the Wey Navigation. Some sections can be very muddy so keep mind if planning to walk this route after significant rainfall....

Lady Godiva 2

Walk this route

A good all-year-round route, that is typically quieter than the route along the Desborough Cut (Weywal one)....

Walk this route

A short pleasent walk with some interesting features. There are some steep ramps to the bridges over the River Wey. The tow path is not made up and can get muddy and wet....

Passes through fields, woodland and open spaces plus the views of Broadwater Lake are magical....

But you definitely can't exit the estate without a tag, as it's an unmanned barrier at Seven Hills Road and the pedestrian access is locked without a tag....

The section from the river at Elmbridge Canoe Club could be an issue for those using mobility aids as there are 2 Kissing Gates on path however an alternative route heading towards Weybridge would be continuing along by the river towpath and then follow Thames Street under to the Weybridge waymark. At the Walton end, it would be better to towpath until the broad steps up to River Mount and Thames Street to the Walton waymark....

This route takes you to St George’s Hill private estate through which there is no public right of way. We had to finish the walk half way down Old Avenue due to the lack of public access. If you live on St George’s Hill estate or are a member of the tennis or golf club there then that’s fine but otherwise it’s a non-starter....

A little muddy on towpath by the River Wey but there had been very heavy showers during the past week. No steps or gates....

Walk this route

It goes through the security-guarded St George's Hill private estate, the covid-19-restricted entry to Whiteley (retirement) Village, the horribly busy Seven Hills Road (with one narrow pavement), and, near the end, through the no-access back entrance to Painshill (entrance fee required) It might be possible to devise a route via Brooklands......
