Walking out of WoT to the river is along quiet well-to-do suburbs. Along and over the river is also lovely, I stopped for lunch in the Marina café which I can recommend....

The first two-thirds is along fairly green residential streets (photo #2) with wide pavements (photo #3, #4), although these were again full of cars (photo #5)....

Otherwise, It is a straightforward route that is easy to follow and uses pavements and tarmacked paths. At the Stanwell Moor end I do love the river that runs along the residencial Hithermoor road (see photo under review of stahou)....

Ashford is a major connecting node in the Slow Ways network, where a number of green belt routes pass through, but it does sprawl with limited ‘off road’ options, especially on the London side. Setting off from Ashford station, the Ashford end can’t really be changed: it’s along busy B roads, mostly wide pavements, albeit with some pavement parking, which is the general way it seems nowadays. From here there’s a mix of grassy path and pavement as far as Walton Bridge....

This route uses an all year ferry across the Thames at Shepperton. It costs £3 - you can pay on board or at the coffee shop on the Shepperton side. If ferry is not running, or you don’t want to use it, I suggest that from Shepperton you walk to Walton bridge and cross there (I’ll probably put this in as a route option for Ashford to Walton.) Then you can walk to Weybridge on the south side of the river....

To address the poor mapping across the roundabout at Sunbury. On approach you can see the underpass where it is open in the middle of the roundabout so you know there is one, but yes, the entrances are not well marked....

Stanwell Moor is very quiet, I'd walked from Iver to Ashford via Stanwell making this a lovely station to station walk. No specific barriers to wheels but the path past Stains Reservoir is very narrow....

Strider

There are some frustrations - it’s not possible to avoid the B377 at Ashford - but there is a lot of green on this route and some is splendid - skylarks at St Dunstan’s meadow, butterflies at Hounslow Heath - awesome!...

Walk this route

I have a concern about the roughly drawn route-line at Sunbury, which - being a bit astray - does not in my opinion make it sufficiently clear to use the underpass to cross between the town and the railway station. This will be more likely to cause problems walking Ashford to Sunbury for anyone who doesn't have local knowledge, because it's quite easy to miss the subway access if you are not looking for it....
