Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

  1. Complete the survey training.

Very disappointing. As per the other reviews, this is not a viable route as we found out. St George's Hill seems accessible from Old Avenue - we just told the Security Guard at the barrier that we were looking for East Road and he directed us accordingly. But you definitely can't exit the estate without a tag, as it's an unmanned barrier at Seven Hills Road and the pedestrian access is locked without a tag. Likewise, no access to the Painshill Park part of the route once you cross the A245. If go left along the A245, over the roundabout, there's a footpath on the right that takes you to the back end of Cobham.

This route takes you to St George’s Hill private estate through which there is no public right of way. We had to finish the walk half way down Old Avenue due to the lack of public access. If you live on St George’s Hill estate or are a member of the tennis or golf club there then that’s fine but otherwise it’s a non-starter.

I am not even going to try this route as shown here.
It goes through the security-guarded St George's Hill private estate, the covid-19-restricted entry to Whiteley (retirement) Village, the horribly busy Seven Hills Road (with one narrow pavement), and, near the end, through the no-access back entrance to Painshill (entrance fee required)
It might be possible to devise a route via Brooklands.

    Absolutely agree!

I believe this route is impossible because of the private estates with no PROW. A possible (and much longer) alternative via the River Wey Navigation and Wisley is also impossible at the moment because of Junction 10 roadworks. The pedestrian bridges have not yet been replaced!
