Description

This is an alternative route between Walton-on-Thames and Weybridge. It is a more accessible and safer option as it avoids parts of the original route that has limited pavement access. It is also more direct between the two points. The route mainly follows the Broadwater lake which runs adjacent to the river Thames

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

I walked this on a warm and mostly sunny morning, from Weybridge to Walton.

The first section in Weybridge is a little annoying due to road, but soon it starts following lovely paths (photo #1, #2), along the Engine River (photo #3). The (short) section along the Thames is nice (photo #4), but then unfortunately the section towards the finish requires some walking next to traffic (photo #5, #6).

A good all-year-round route, that is typically quieter than the route along the Desborough Cut (Weywal one). The bulk of the walk has good tree cover so shady in summer and some protection if it's raining. The path is in good condition and not excessively muddy. A couple of previously flood-prone parts have been improved in recent months. Have seen the occasional deer and bird of prey along the route.

Great walk to avoid the crowds. Passes through fields, woodland and open spaces plus the views of Broadwater Lake are magical.

A pleasant off road walk.
