Help connect Rishton
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Rishton’s Slow Ways.

Starting in the residential surroundings of Church, the first portion of this route passes though a housing estate, before crossing the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, and onto a well-established and well surfaced shared off-road (pedestrian and cycle) path....

Having walked both versions of RisGre I'd recommend RisGre Two - stay on the canal as far as possible into Rishton, avoids the noisy road....

You leave the towpath in Blackburn via an open pub car park. I think the canal towpath is probably the ideal route for this largely urban Slow Way....

I haven't actually walked this but I investigated the motorway roundabout on Google streetview. There is no traffic control on and off the M65 roundabout for several of the essential crossings, in both directions round the roundabout. Also I suspect footpath from the roundabout will therefore be little used may be overgrown or blocked....

Walk this routeAfter passing a field with some stables, the OS Map shows a footpath off to the left, but this doesn’t exist, and it is necessary to continue up to the top by the pylons, where a footpath sign points into a field. After passing another lovely old house (dated 1758) the route takes a sharp left turn into a gravelled path with a bollard in the middle of it. This path was a bit wet and muddy but it was a nice route to bring you out at the canal bridge....

The route leaves Church along housing streets, and then passes a rather sad looking derelict church, before crossing the Leeds and Liverpool Canal on a tarmacked farm access road....

Leaving Rishton, the route weaves through pleasant housing streets, and over the railway onto a lane, through some sort of farm for dead motor vehicles, and on over the M65 on a farm lane leading to Cowhill Fold....

Starting from Rishton there is a short walk along the road and over the canal to the towpath, accessed via a cycle barrier and slope....

I agree with previous comment by Steve38, stay on the canal bank rather than divert to the main road....
Mr Snail
This route could be improved by carrying on along the canal bank instead of diverting to go along the main road....
Steve38
It's a mixture of urban streets, urban greenway (old railway line) and canal towpath....
