Help connect Great Harwood

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Great Harwood’s Slow Ways.

Fairly easy to follow, though there are a number of other paths radiating from the edge of Great Harwood....

We walk this often from Great Harwood to Whalley which has good pubs/shops to reward the effort. Just remember you have to walk back up the Nab after more than one pint....

Walk this route

Good route between the towns which is offroad as much as I think possible. Takes in a lovely stretch of the river and passes a garden centre with cafe thats a good stop for refreshments. Crosses two very busy roads which unfortunately can be treacherous to cross at busy times....

Walk this route

Probably the best offroad route between the towns, I used it for many years walking to work. Consider a small divert at the Clayton end to take a look at the Mercer Park and All Saints Church if you have time....

After crossing the urban greenway there is a short stretch of very run-down industrial zone, followed by a longer section which is better maintained....

Starting from Rishton there is a short walk along the road and over the canal to the towpath, accessed via a cycle barrier and slope....
