Also it's along tarmac paths the whole way, which might be a plus, but Spout Hill is pretty steep, about 14 degrees using a mapping app. The route is quite roughly drawn but if it was more accurate it could be marginally more pleasant: it could flag up that there is an option between ///piano.buzz.alive and ///unfair.tummy.gifts to use a non tarmac path (for 600m) beside Kennel Woods that is sometimes shielded behind trees, instead of staying on the pavement opposite. There is a different path in Kennel Woods that dips further inside (but not as far as the London Loop) would add <10m and provide this route with a short but genuinely off-road section. If you use either Kennel Woods path use the width restriction at ///piano.buzz.alive as your road crossing, there's a tight bend....

I was looking forward to ‘snailing’ this one but came adrift at South Norwood country park where the given route is completely blocked/overgrown in several places, leading to me walking around in circles trying to find a way through. (Photos). With a decent all weather path nearby I’d recommend sticking with that...

Elmers End has big roads and a number of crossing points to choose from to get to the station....

The gradient coming down to the A2022 at Kent Gate was extremely steep, albeit short, but a walking pole would be handy for this section. I wasn’t sure why the road crossing at Kent Gate is plotted with a walk up and down the road; but I took it to mean take care and get the best visibility possible before crossing!...

The woods and stream (photo #3, #4, #5) at Harvington Estate were lovely, but the walk along Hayes Way (photo #6), was less so, nor crossing Hayes Lane or Shortland Road (photo #7, #8)....

After finding my way from the busy transport hub at East Croydon, the route starts off through some residential streets (photo #1). Another residential street, Estcourt Road goes fairly down hill (photo #5), before a narrow path (photo #6) past the Arena tram stop gets you into South Norwood Country park (photo #7, #8)....

Four stars because of the less interesting road walks, but Eden Park, Harvington Woods and Queensmead Recreation Ground are pleasant. I diverted after the larger pond up the steep paths through Church House Gardens to the Churchill Theatre in the High Street. Toilets in the Glades shopping centre are on the first floor above Waterstones....

Was surprised to see the remains of the Croydon Canal to north of Betts Park....

Betts Park is nice, South Norwood Country (!) Park is lovely....

Note you only need use the flights of steps in the survey photos to get down to the train platforms, not technically on the route at Crystal Palace....

Pleasant walk with easy to find paths although Croelm Two misses out the Railway Park from Blackhorse Lane tram stop that's there in Croelm One. Note that Croydon Parks are closed at night (4.30 in Winter!) even though they are cycle routes. main roads have pedestrian crossings....

Direct, mostly very quiet given the traffic on the bigger roads. A nice little park I'd never visited before with a few interesting stories and an large mistletoe colony. If I didn't like it I wouldn't have uploaded it ;)...

Daisy C added Cryelm two, a new walk from Crystal Palace to Elmers End
Walk this routeI walked this on the same day as ElmBro 1 and it's definitely quieter traffic, with more off-road, and even greener along the roads. I expected an alley from maps but it's a nice ribbon park along a stream with ducks, small reed beds, and tree-lined grassy paths....

I really liked Martins Hill, a small semi-wild space at the top of the hill near Bromley High Street, contiguous with Queensmead Rec. The flatter alternative mentioned by Marmot is pretty much the Bromley end of ElmBro 2, out of Queensmead Rec into Glassmill Lane and immediately into Glassmill Pond - a linear park beside the Ravensbourne. Ravensbourne Rd is flat and comes out just at the station so it avoids Bromley High St!...

Also, if coming from Bromley, when you get to the junction of Shortland Road and Hayes Lane, go through the modal filter onto Whitecroft Way and then go along Hayes Way....

Lovely route with a very long woodland section. The southern section all the way from Addington Vale (photo 1) to Shirley Church Road is through a long chain of contiguous woodlands with a few meadow and even heathland sections (photos 2 - 7). I considered deducting a star but the route is otherwise as good as it can be and makes very good use of some lovely green spaces. The route joins the London Loop at the top of that hill. You could find a shorter way through to Shirley Church Rd but on sometimes woodland paths are disorienting and I appreciated the good signage of the London Loop (with thanks to the Inner London Ramblers)....

Walk this routeIt's a good route with a bit of greenery in the South Norwood Country Park and the Addiscombe Railway Park - it's about as green as you can get in this part of the city. If you have the time, do explore the South Norwood Country Park near Elmer's End....

The route also passes Betts Park (in the middle) which has open space and seating, and is more accessible (level access & path quality) that the other parks....
