Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Hysteresis
27 Feb 2022I walked this local route in March 2022, from Elmer's End to Croydon. It's a good route with a bit of greenery in the South Norwood Country Park and the Addiscombe Railway Park - it's about as green as you can get in this part of the city.
The paths are fairly accessible throughout, though some of the longer backstreet sections (e.g. Estcourt Road) have a lot of parked cars, which could make things a little tight for wheelchairs in places. Other than that, it's plain sailing. All of the roads that need to be crossed have convenient zebra crossings, and all of the roads you're walking along are quite quiet.
If you have the time, do explore the South Norwood Country Park near Elmer's End. It's got a nice network of paths and can give a good illusion of being somewhere much more remote, although it can get a little muddy. Watch out for the herons!
Overall, a fun little jaunt. I'd use this often to wander into Croydon if I'm not in a hurry. Definitely more interesting than taking the tram!.
