Description
This route is quieter than CryElm 1 and goes through Betts Park and through South Norwood Country Park which is rather wild. On the flip side it's about a third longer.
About 1.1km is shared with CryElm1 on busy roads, and the same through the parks. The rest is tarmac footpaths or quiet residential roads with no cut through traffic due to layout of train-lines. There are buses and a small shop at Croydon Rd, then a tram stop at Harrington Rd.

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

11 Jan 2024 (edited 20 Jan 2024)Interesting route though Country Park and Betts Park. Was surprised to see the remains of the Croydon Canal to north of Betts Park. Shops in Anerley Road near Crystal Palace Station. Toilets and café in Crystal Palace Park (south entrance). Toilets in Tesco at Elmers End.
Tree across path in the Country Park (photo #3) has been removed by Croydon Parks department (15/01/24). Checked on 19/1/24 (photo #12).

10 Jan 2024Enjoyable except the main road section, which is at least short enough to be somewhat interesting although it means the route misses out on a 5 star rating. Betts Park is nice, South Norwood Country (!) Park is lovely. The streets and paths between were very quiet, especially from SNCP to the foot tunnel under the railway. These include "South London's Best Street".
There was a very muddy part near the beginning of SNCP, and the lakes, that submerged shoes of the dog walkers just ahead of me, albeit during a few days of national flood warnings. Hard surfaces otherwise. SNCP and parts of B Park are unlit at night. One footpaths unlit, some others sporadically.
Tested partly in daytime May 2023, partly from dusk in January 2024.

11 Jan 2024Still wet and muddy on first path through South Norwood Country Park and tree across path (January 2024), but nice route away from main road.

11 Jan 2024The dog walker thought that muddy bit was quite a laugh until he had to go back and rescue his very small white dog who was less amused!

16 Jan 2024Croydon Parks tell me that the tree has been removed, but not the mud!

26 Jan 2024If they'd laid it lengthways it would have been useful.
