Help connect Easingwold

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.

Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Give a hike and help get a for every one of Easingwold’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates

An excellent route, quite direct but off road, mainly on farm tracks, quiet lanes and the grassy edges of fields. When I walked the only place open for lunch was the Carlton Inn. The road into Thirsk seems a much better option than the route one, where the paths don't seem to exist and the fields are wild....

I liked the middle part on the road to Huby, because I am doing a long distance route, and I found it frustrating to start and finish with curving detours south when I wanted to head north!...

Under maintained paths throughout, some detours due to building work and blocked paths. Going alongside main B roads quite scary. Doubt I would use again...

Walk this route

An enjoyable walk, Which although much was on roads to avoid the flooded fields, was safe and made for a good day out....

Both previous reviews make interesting points as to the enjoyment of this route, but having walked it on a beautiful autumn day, I have to concur with both in their praise, and to also say I found the lane stretch quite beautiful for its rural nature and ease of navigation. All the centres on this route are very nice places, with plenty of amenities....

I’ve included some photos that show you have to climb an electric fence at a footbridge approaching Peep-o-Day. It is insulated and safe but be aware...

My only problem was the weather on the day I walked it, which meant everything was wet and e ery bit of mud was an accident waiting to happen. I won't mark down the route because of the weather though....

My experience seems quite different to the previous reviewer which I think is really good. Slso my purpose was to get to Easingwold so it felt quite good to be going quite swiftly....

Lots of problems with this walk though - a lot of walking on the road (& reasonable amount of traffic), lots of stiles - some very high, others very unstable....

Struggling to even give this one star, although walked the route in August it was a very wet day which perhaps didn't help....

I actually ended up taking a detour nearer to Huby due to some cows in a field. The remainder of the walk to Huby cows and sheep were in the fields but the farmers had put a nice segregation fence along the path so you could walk without fear of interrupting sheep. This part of the journey started out well, I left Huby and followed the main road, by footpath to the turning. There is a gate to the left of the house which you navigate round, but it was hidden by a wheely bin and very overgrown. I only noticed it because once I had reached Shipton I did the walk in reverse. Overall the walk was pleasant, but certainly the Huby to Shipton section isn't so much a walk I would recommend for general walkers who are out to enjoy scenery...

Easier to walk around the lane round this field -. In Thieas(2) I am suggesting an alternative here, which will use Green Lane a by-way between Moor Lane and the A170 which is paved into and out of Thirsk....

Walk this route

It is well signed, safe and apart from a short section on the caravan route on Mill Dike Lane near Carlton Husthwaite all the road sections are on quiet roads or are paved - even this section of 100 metres length has a wide grass verge at the side. Good refreshment stops on route....
