There is a path from Thirsk that joins the route heading north out of Thirsk (going behind the Church) and it is an alternative which avoids roads....

It was here I had my first diversion as the path was closed to repair footbridges. After this there was a short section of corn field which was fun but the a section along the railway line which was gruelling as There was no clear path as the farmer had ploughed.right to the edge leaving you a choice of wading through long wet grass and nettles or collecting mud on your boots from his field....

My only problem was the weather on the day I walked it, which meant everything was wet and e ery bit of mud was an accident waiting to happen. I won't mark down the route because of the weather though....

At the time I walked it, much was overgrown particularly alongside the river Swale between Skipton Bridge and Holme....

Easier to walk around the lane round this field -. In Thieas(2) I am suggesting an alternative here, which will use Green Lane a by-way between Moor Lane and the A170 which is paved into and out of Thirsk....

It is well signed, safe and apart from a short section on the caravan route on Mill Dike Lane near Carlton Husthwaite all the road sections are on quiet roads or are paved - even this section of 100 metres length has a wide grass verge at the side. Good refreshment stops on route....

The section between Green Lane and Thirsk during my visit posed a couple of problems, but nothing that couldn't be overcome....

It can be avoided by going down Brockholme lane onto the road and on to the farm lane at Martin's Folly Cottages and following until back on the way south of Thornborough farm....
