although alongside the river Ure for much of the route the way was quite a pleasant and easy walk....

I totally agree with the comments made by reviewer 1 that the detour from the river into Bishop Monkton is unnecessary unless you wish to call there for refreshments - there is a pub there. Also it is possible to continue on pavement along Bar lane between Boroughbridge and Roeckiffe. Both options make for a shorter and more direct equally enjoyable walk....

We walked from Boroughbridge to Ripon in mid June following the Slow Ways path, including the diversion through Bishop Monkton which is unneccesary unless you need to go into the village - the footpath continues alongside the river. There is a nature reserve (Ripon City Wetlands) between the canal, river and racecourse, and an alternative to keeping by the canal would be a slightly longer walk through the reserve and then along the river Ure to Hewick Bridge and up the river Skell into Ripon....

At Halfpenny Lane it turns right then first left then left at the end of the road into Half Crown Way2 It crosses Water Lane (right then left) then crosses fields with a good view over the lake at the path end3 The path follows the field edge at a point between Poplars Farm and Arkendale (not as shown on the public right of way map)4 The route follows the track approaching Brooms House rather than cutting the corner off the field (see photo)5 Before harvest it may also follow the field edge after Brooms House but we walked it after harvest and crossed over the corner of the field as per right of way....
