The route drops then down to Nunnington (Nunnington Hall is a National Trust property and the Old Yard Coffee Shop is a lovely place for refreshments). You encounter the River Rye for the first time at Nunnington before heading north along Canada Lane towards Harome. You can then follow the footpath across the fields towards Helmsley or cut under the railway bridge (631826) and follow the path on the north bank of the River Rye. The alternative route along the bank of the River Rye also merges into Sawmill Lane....

Map reading skills will be needed as the route is sometimes not waymarked and the PROW is obscured occasionally. Starting in Sheriff Hutton outside Quarmby’s deli and coffee house the route quickly leads out of the village (keep to the elevated path) to join the Ebor Way. This occurred again just North of New House Farm way the way is blocked by a race course markers....
