Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

06 May 2021 (edited 27 Jun 2023)Very pleasant route with glorious views and minimal road walking. Map reading skills will be needed as the route is sometimes not waymarked and the PROW is obscured occasionally. Starting in Sheriff Hutton outside Quarmby’s deli and coffee house the route quickly leads out of the village (keep to the elevated path) to join the Ebor Way. Here is the first challenge to navigation as the field had been sown with no obvious break for the footpath. There were footprints from previous walkers directly across the field following the right of way. This occurred again just North of New House Farm way the way is blocked by a race course markers. It is easy enough to duck under them and continue to the other side. The climb past Primrose Farm is steep but on a good surface. Just before reaching Mowthorpe Lane the PROW goes through a small paddock. Here you are invited to use a permissive path to avoid the horses (I didn’t). As you pass the cemetery South of Terrington there is a tap to refill with water but just off the way in Terrington is the Village stores and tea rooms. The way now leaves the Ebor Way and follows by a delightful beck with a few soggy places. The route East of Howthorpe Farm is very ill defined, having to cross an electric fence and follow GPS or have very good map reading skills. Frankly it would be simpler but further to stick to the Ebor Way. Anyway, the slow way rejoins Ebor South of Hollin Hill Bogs to eventually lead into the Hovingham Estate. Once leaving the wooded area it is essentially North to the finish at the bus stop in Hovingham. There are several cafes and pubs here.
