Help connect St Helier
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of St Helier’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates
After leaving Mitcham, you following Love lane along the route, and some footpaths to end up at a church (photo #1). Passing a slightly dodgy industrial estate, you cross the tram tracks at Belgrave Walk, before ending alongside Morden Road for a short while....

Good direct route with a mix of urban streets, paths, and some parkland. I had a cup of tea at the cafe next to the entrance to Ravensbury Park, then skidaddled all the way to St Helier station non-stop....

Jane Taylor added Sthmit two, a new walk from St Helier to Mitcham
Walk this routeI was looking forward to giving a 3rd positive review and validate the route - but - there is a building site where the route should go, and so, like the previous reviewers, I found myself walking along the river Wandle in Ravensbury Park. Since this is clearly the preferred routing, I think the time has come to make it ‘official’, and I’ll put up a new route option....
Jane Taylor
From here on there are more tree-lined residential streets nearly all the way to Wimbledon, except for a short section through an urban footpath....

Crossing Reigate Avenue is easy, as there is a foot bridge, and thankfully you only need to walk along this busy road for about a minute (photo #5), before continuing through "The Daisy Field" park (photo #6)....

I also went through Ravensbury Park before crossing Morden Road to Belgrave Walk which adds a short distance. Shops at each end....

Just continue down Marina Avenue to Sir Joseph Hood Memorial Fields car park and turn left along the path. If the cemetery gate is locked, just continue along the path to Green Lane (Lower Morden Equestrian Centre) and turn left....

To avoid 3 sets of steps (across railway and path to Wimbledon Station) turn right at Dundonald Road and use Hartfield Crescent to get to centre of Wimbledon....
JohnMyerson
An enjoyable walk that will take you through quiet corridors and footpaths and also green spaces between the two destinations. If the cemetery is open, it is a lovely part of the route, but beware that it is shared between pedestrians and drivers. One of my favourite parts was the path through Morden Hall Park....

Crossing Sutton Bypass is by footbridge or on the level when traffic is light....

Coming from St Helier towards Motspur Park the way through from Arthur Road to Marina Avenue is between house numbers 18 and 20, and comes out on Marina Avenue between 19 and 21....

I suggest to continue on Marina Avenue to the playing field at the end, then half-left to the gateway out of the park to pick up the path from Arthur Road....

The second half, from Rose Hill to Sutton is along busy roads, although the last part up to Sutton station is pedestrianised. I cannot think of a better alternative though. There is a cafe in Rosehill Recreation Ground....
Malcolm Jones
Cross the bridge and continue across Ravensbury Meadow opposite, towards a playground then past it to the park exit on Morden Road....

Wilton Grove (in John Innes Conservation Area) and Mostyn Road (partly in Merton Park Conservation Area) are long, leafy & tree-lined residential streets and pleasant to walk....
