Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

  1. Complete the survey training.

I walked this on a cloudy, and minutely drizzly, but warmish afternoon, from St Helier to Wimbledon.

This is a very urban walk, but most of it is either along leafly streets, or urban foot paths. From St Helier you first pass, and then cross two housing estates, with lots of trees in blossom. Crossin London Road is a little tricky, but there are pedestrian lights. You get a good view of the Baitul Futuh mosque here, and also from Morden Park which the route then crosses into. From here on there are more tree-lined residential streets nearly all the way to Wimbledon, except for a short section through an urban footpath. The last section of the route goes along tram tracks, and along a narrowish footpath along the railway towards the station. You do however need to cross it by a pedestrian bridge with lots of steps.

Pleasant walk through Morden Park and residential streets to footpath from Wilton Grove. To avoid 3 sets of steps (across railway and path to Wimbledon Station) turn right at Dundonald Road and use Hartfield Crescent to get to centre of Wimbledon. Shops opposite St. Helier Station and at Wimbledon. Toilets in Centre Court Shopping. Photos show St. Helier to Wimbledon.

Wilton Grove (in John Innes Conservation Area) and Mostyn Road (partly in Merton Park Conservation Area) are long, leafy & tree-lined residential streets and pleasant to walk.
