Help connect Wimbledon
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Wimbledon’s Slow Ways.

I followed the route but ended up on a footpath and had a lovely walk but not easy to follow across open ground....

There's no need to follow the route exactly at the beginning as you can stay on the north side of Cromwell Road (passing the bus station which is still under construction) to Birkenhead Avenue (see my map). Turning off Coombe Lane to Coombe Hill Road is a quiet relief....
JohnMyerson
The beginning is a monotonous Road but past the bus yard it gets into lovely woodland....
Strider
Instead of going along Merton Hall Road you would be better off going along Dundonald Road, then Hartfield Crescent to Wimbledon station...
Graham Racher
"Due to construction works for the Motspur Park station Access For All Scheme, the Ticket Office will be closed from Friday 19th May until Spring 2024"....
Strider
I think it's fairly easy to find a less muddy, but slightly longer, route, following the main path....
Derick Rethans
We love this walk, we start from elsewhere in kingston so avoid the bus station, once your off Coombe hill it’s a lovely walk through woodlands and alongside a golf course. We normally end at the fox and grapes for lunch....
Mark Harris
I started from Robin Hood Gate having walked from Richmond....
JohnMyerson
Once you get off the main road, it's a really pleasant stroll through suburban streets and the common. I did have to check the map a couple of times to make sure I was taking the right one, but generally it's straightforward and easy to navigate. Can't think of a better way between the two places!...
Ingrina
Lingfield Road avoids the High Street then Oldfield Road leads into Sunnyside Passage and Malcolm Road....
JohnMyerson
On the plus side, it connects South Wimbledon station (Northern line) into the Slow Ways network, and links it with Wimbledon station (District line, trams and mainline rail)....
Jane Taylor
From here on there are more tree-lined residential streets nearly all the way to Wimbledon, except for a short section through an urban footpath....
Derick Rethans
The road in Tooting is busier and less pleasant to walk alongside, but there is more interest at that end....
David Sanderson
A reasonable walk with some good parts and some not-so-good parts. Downhill along a fenced in path to a woodland, continue downhill along narrow muddy paths to the A3. Not suitable for wheels due to steps and narrow muddy paths....
Strider
Agree with the other reviewers, a fairly straightforward urban walk between two town centres....
Strider
I walked this route on a freezing Saturday morning, from Wimbledon to Kingston Vale....
Derick Rethans
A pleasant walk through trees following the Wandle Trail takes you cross the road into new development ad up to the high street and station. A further 10 minute walk would take you to Wimbledon Common....
Lizbiz70
To avoid 3 sets of steps (across railway and path to Wimbledon Station) turn right at Dundonald Road and use Hartfield Crescent to get to centre of Wimbledon....
JohnMyerson
Once away from the centre of Wimbledon, it became a beautiful, green route until it reached the crossing over the Kingston bypass and the long slog of a walk into Kingston along a busy road. Secondly, the route through the woods is likely to get muddy in wet weather and there is no lighting, making this route unsuitable after dark without a torch of some kind....
Intrepid Rabbit
I went from Wimbledon to Motspur Park and really enjoyed this route....
Ingrina
Overall, good walk between Tooting Broadway and Wimbledon....
Ingrina
I walked this route from Wimbledon to Kingston Vale on a muddy January morning!...
mtormey
Route is in two parts: busy road walking away from Kingston; and quiet residential roads, woodland and common on the approach to Wimbledon....
Jane Taylor
This route has a good balance of directness/pleasantness - it swerves a bit to take in Wimbledon and Putney Commons but it's well worth the swerve, a more direct route would be pavement walk all the way....
Jane Taylor
I have remade the route as Kinwim Two, with the dangerous road crossing removed and some other tweaks, and highly recommend using that instead....
Jane Taylor
Jane Taylor added Kinwim two, a new walk from Kingston to Wimbledon
Walk this routeI've made a new version, Putwim Two, with a few alterations to correct the routing error, and to make the route a little quieter in places....
Jane Taylor
Steep hill at Wimbledon, and the paths on the common may get muddy over winter. I really enjoyed walking this route. When combined with Richkin One, the overall Richmond - Wimbledon Slow Way delivers a full 5 stars....
Jane Taylor
Mix of residential streets, some busy roads, and an off-road riverside path shared with cyclists. The riverside path is varied with some lovely areas and some more industrial. Probably the best route available for this Slow Way....
Jane Taylor
It was fairly pleasant is it involved some tree-lined paths in wooded areas....
paulyoung
I walked part of this route in August 2021 from Colliers Wood to Wimbledon. It was straightforward and no problems. It seems to follow signposted cycle routes....

There’s Cannon Hill park and John Innes park nearby if you want a pleasant detour...
KatharineBock
Cross the park to the Trinity Road gate & turn right back to South Park Road & turn left. I also suggest going through Haydons Road Rec, by turning right off South Park Road on Bridges Road then left on Latimer Road past the Victorian Swimming Pool, right on Wycliffe Road & left on Quicks Road to the corner of the Rec....
Malcolm Jones
Once on Wimbledon Common at the end of The Grange, the route is transformed and is an excellent path across the Common, through heathland, woods and golf courses....
Richard Grace
From Wimbledon Station main entrance, cross the road and follow the path opposite for 150m to a footbridge over the railway on the left....
Malcolm Jones
Cross road and go along Lingfield Road opposite until you reach Ridgway. Cross road and go along alley immediately opposite to St George's Road....
Malcolm Jones
This is a good route that uses the excellent Wandle Trail from Earlsfield to Plough Lane and takes in backstreets from there to Wimbledon. Shops are available en route around Haydons Road....
tractiveeffort
Wilton Grove (in John Innes Conservation Area) and Mostyn Road (partly in Merton Park Conservation Area) are long, leafy & tree-lined residential streets and pleasant to walk....
Malcolm Jones
Good route for the most part; although the section along Tooting High St can be very polluted, the alternative would involve an awkward footbridge over the railway...
