Connect Horsforth with Slow Ways
We’re creating a network of walking routes that connect all of Britain’s towns, cities and national parks
more walks and reviews are needed to fully connect Horsforth to the verified network. Can you give a hike and help?
Give a hike!Help connect Horsforth
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Horsforth’s Slow Ways.

The final section on the canal kept us away from city centre road traffic but the constantly circling police helicopter overhead sure made us aware of the difference between inter-urban and urban walking....

there was good accessible farmland over Billing Hill which had long views, and the section to the south of Leeds Trinity University is a particularly noteworthy refuge from buildings. A long suburban road to Horsforth station was relieved by it being downhill and by a bakery....

Crossing over the river Aire, we moved onto the Leeds Liverpool canal towpath, which was lovely and well used by walkers, cyclists and narrowboaters alike....

Despite occasional signs of approaching a large metropolis, we generally found peace and quiet, notwithstanding having to cross an occasional busy road....

This is a walk of three sections: quiet pathways through wooded areas criss-crossing the railway, then a section of road walking followed by a delightful ending through Burley Park and then along the Leeds-Liverpool canal with the River Aire running parallel....

Having descended the Town Street of Rawden past an interesting church, there are a mixture of pathways including the Beechwood crescent houses, skirting the Leeds Trinity University and what seemed like a fascinating ancient byway....

Leaving Horsforth over the bridge and turning left, the walker enters a wooded footpath which follows the next to the railway line which is surprisingly pleasant with many very mature trees. The path leads the walker through the streets of Headingley, through Burley Park and eventually along the towpath of the Leeds Liverpool canal to the train station. Route finding wasn't a problem although a street map or GPS was essential....

Look out for the interesting gravestone at the gate entrance to Rawdon St Peters and the rather lovely Beechwood estate but most of all the sublime ancient trackway just after Hunger Hill with the flag stones worn down after centuries of foot and horse traffic (this made it worth the 4 stars!). The walk ends up in the busy main street of Horsforth down at the train station....

Unfortunately, due to overgrown footpaths, we had to make a few diversions, and parts of the route were inaccurately plotted (on non existent footpaths). With a few small edits, I would recommend this route....

Most direct route between Adel and Horsforth - not particularly scenic, although there isn't a more scenic alternative without major detours. Mostly follows pavements, apart from a foot path next to the Ireland Wood playing fields, which is very accessible. Tinshill Lane is fairly steep....

This is a great way to walk between Horsforth and Leeds and is far greener than many people might expect....

I enjoyed walking this route, but would like another route option for walking when it's dark. Most of the route would be fine, but like others... some of the woodland sections would not be appealing at night....

This is an enjoyable way to walk between Yeadon and Horsforth with a great view across the Leeds from Billing Hill. There were cows in the fields, but they all appeared very used to walkers and were not bothered by us. There are a few stiles....

I really enjoyed walking this route and did not expect the country fields in this part of Leeds. Loved the views....

Mostly on urban roads, some off road, a steep hill at the beginning and then a gentle incline, good views across Leeds and beyond before it drops down into Adel...

Peter's church yard, Rawdon and fantastic views from the trig point near Rawdon Billing. Good facilities at both ends....

It's a safe route and would feel fine walking it on my own (but maybe not in the evening through the woods as a solo woman). The route given was accurate and I'd be happy to walk it again....
