Connect Pudsey with Slow Ways
We’re creating a network of walking routes that connect all of Britain’s towns, cities and national parks
more walks and reviews are needed to fully connect Pudsey to the verified network. Can you give a hike and help?

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Pudsey’s Slow Ways.

The route into Bradford proper took us though residential areas, which was fine, but for those who know (me) it took us away from a main road, which while we avoided too much traffic noise meant that we missed looking into the shops of the most amazing colourful fabrics and ornaments, and the varieties of food stuffs on offer....

The route is widely varied, taking the walker along a shady canal in Leeds, where it's great to chat to people fishing or walking - an insight into a slower way of travelling....

The final bit of the path takes you up and through residential streets which is not without interest but you could get into the centre more directly along the busy main road, passing shops, mosques and so on....

We found a van selling coffee by the canal and there’s the Industrial Museum (pictured) with a nice garden and loos....

I would walk this again, it was pretty accurate, the Pudsey end was pretty suburban, the middle part of the leg there was a beautiful old cobbled path/road....

The tow path was very pretty with joggers and there was an industrial museum along the way, which was laid back and interesting, a good loo stop too....

The first 40% is terrific - canal and woodland, off road. Between Stanningley Road and Farnley Ring Road (MacDonalds - reliable and welcome refreshments and toilets) is an ‘up and over’ (i.e its up a hill and then down again!) through residential streets, with some off road footpaths. The frustration is from seeing so much off road green space, woodland, but not routing through it....

However, when leaving Pudsey towards Stanningley/Farsley, the route crosses the Ring Road....

In Bradford, between the Lidl in Barkerend and the A6177/Leeds Road junction, the route passes through some very deprived residential areas....

This route was fine except for the access problem at Laisterdyke mentioned by Gemma C. The gate is permanently locked and it is unacceptable to climb over the fence. There a nearby alternative which I have uploaded as BraPud Two....

After Tyersal the route follows a lovely wooded, rural section for a mile, on good footpaths....

From here, the route immediately improves, passing along a wooded and surfaced path through Gotts Park and the golf club to reach the Leeds and Liverpool Canal towpath, which makes up about 40% of the journey. It runs alongside the River Aire, and soon passes Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills, with access directly from the towpath. Just before the canal goes under the railway, the route leaves it to cross the River Aire which it follows until the river dives down weirs and under Leeds Station....

An easy to navigate route with varied scenery - estates and a nice wooded section. There was one section however that a gate was locked so we couldn't access, and had to climb over instead - the turning off New Lane....

Some paths nicer than others but overall paths where easy to find and were clear to walk on.Just one main road to cross (by pass coming out of Pudsey) which was a little difficult with the traffic and speed of....

A decent route between Leeds City Centre and Pudsey. The western half of the route is mostly on urban residential roads in Pudsey, Farnley and Armley, which is very direct even if not very exciting. Crossing Stanningley bypass at the suggested point isn't the most fun, so it might be worth taking a 500m detour to cross at the lights....
