09 Aug 2024An acceptable route so close to the city centre but not particularly interesting. There was one very long section, without any turnings, alongside a busy road. Headingley and Burley had their moments of interest. The final section on the canal kept us away from city centre road traffic but the constantly circling police helicopter overhead sure made us aware of the difference between inter-urban and urban walking.

08 Aug 2024As one would expect, there was some walking on pavements through districts of Leeds by the side of some busy roads. The graffiti was interesting and sometimes artistic.
However, part of the walk took us through tree-lined tracks and also
through the lovely Burley Park.
Crossing over the river Aire, we moved onto the Leeds Liverpool canal towpath, which was lovely and well used by walkers, cyclists and narrowboaters alike. The sights and sounds of the city were ever present, alongside the gentle clicking of the windlass as it opened paddles on lockgates. There was an excited chatter from children as well as wildlife, with majestic swans gliding by through the lily pads.
A lovely space to be walking through. As we neared Leeds railway station, we felt a great sense of achievement at having completed the trail, all the way from Lancaster.

06 Aug 2024This is a walk of three sections: quiet pathways through wooded areas criss-crossing the railway, then a section of road walking followed by a delightful ending through Burley Park and then along the Leeds-Liverpool canal with the River Aire running parallel. This ending was a fantastic route that took you right to Leeds station. However the middle section was rather tedious which brought down points for me. Although further and more complicated, I'm wondering whether it would be more interesting to walk through Queen's Wood, Beckett Park and Batcliffe Wood to take you away from Queenswood Drive. However for an urban area this was a very acceptable walking route holding a lot of interest particularly through the Headingley backstreets.

05 Aug 2024Leaving Horsforth over the bridge and turning left, the walker enters a wooded footpath which follows the next to the railway line which is surprisingly pleasant with many very mature trees. The path leads the walker through the streets of Headingley, through Burley Park and eventually along the towpath of the Leeds Liverpool canal to the train station. Route finding wasn't a problem although a street map or GPS was essential. A little too much walking besides busy roads for my liking but it wasn't without interest.

19 Apr 2022I enjoyed walking this route, but would like another route option for walking when it's dark. Most of the route would be fine, but like others... some of the woodland sections would not be appealing at night.

30 Jun 2021Good mix of streets, woodland and canal walking. One rather long and bit busy road (Queenswood Drive) which would be good to find an alternative to. It's a safe route and would feel fine walking it on my own (but maybe not in the evening through the woods as a solo woman). The route given was accurate and I'd be happy to walk it again.
