Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

This was better than anticipated from the map and its proximity to the city. there was good accessible farmland over Billing Hill which had long views, and the section to the south of Leeds Trinity University is a particularly noteworthy refuge from buildings. A long suburban road to Horsforth station was relieved by it being downhill and by a bakery.

This was a lovely, relatively easy walk. It took us down little ginnels by the side of terraced houses. The paths were mostly shady and green.
Amazingly, despite our proximity to Leeds, we were taken through green fields and down ancient pathways, where the stones had been worn smooth by time and constant use. One develops a sense of history and wonder.
Despite occasional signs of approaching a large metropolis, we generally found peace and quiet, notwithstanding having to cross an occasional busy road.
Route finding was easy. There were signs of stiles having been repaired by volunteers. All in all, a lovely walk.

You are soon off the road through an interesting ginnel at the back of a terraced row with views to the south. Then once you have crossed the A658 the route is surprisingly green and feels rural. In fact we were welcomed by the sound and sighting of a curlew as we entered the first field! We were also accompanied by swallows and house martins as we descended from near Rawden Trig point. Also there were many butterflies in the verges below Billing Tarn and St Peters playing fields. Having descended the Town Street of Rawden past an interesting church, there are a mixture of pathways including the Beechwood crescent houses, skirting the Leeds Trinity University and what seemed like a fascinating ancient byway. I saw red kites flying in the fields here. Then it was a descend into Horsforth passing a bakery to pick up refreshments.

All in all a very interesting route between these two towns with lots of interest along the way.

Only a short walk but a lot of interest here. No real route finding problems across farm land and suburban streets. Look out for the interesting gravestone at the gate entrance to Rawdon St Peters and the rather lovely Beechwood estate but most of all the sublime ancient trackway just after Hunger Hill with the flag stones worn down after centuries of foot and horse traffic (this made it worth the 4 stars!). The walk ends up in the busy main street of Horsforth down at the train station.

This is an enjoyable way to walk between Yeadon and Horsforth with a great view across the Leeds from Billing Hill.

There were cows in the fields, but they all appeared very used to walkers and were not bothered by us.

There are a few stiles. Someone might be able to suggest a more accessible route option.

I really enjoyed walking this route and did not expect the country fields in this part of Leeds. Loved the views.

A great route on street footways and across fields. A very welcome break on a bench in St. Peter's church yard, Rawdon and fantastic views from the trig point near Rawdon Billing.

Good facilities at both ends.
