Rob Carver added Greche two, a new walk from Great Dunmow to Chelmsford
Walk this routeNote that the long straight line from Roxwell road up to Mashbury road near the start of the route isn't a straight path at all....

This is a great walking route, using the Essex Way and Flitch Way. This version takes a safer and more pleasant route into Great Notley, avoiding busy country lanes and rat runs. It's also a very nice bike ride, with the whole of the Flitch Way designated as Bridle way and Cycle Network....

Walk this routeIt is a 60mph link between villages and the airport, in places it narrows down dangerously. The edges and verge are rutted and fragmented but the enormous trucks that race along here....

I'll post up a nicer alternative that uses Great Notley Country Park....

Between Great Canfield and Bacon End the footpath marked on the map would take you through the crop but parallel to this is a field track marking the boundary between two crops which is much easier to walk on and takes you to the same end point. If walking from Dunmow to Leaden Roding you would need to go left from where the footpath crosses the road, follow the edge of the field until you meet the track....

I enjoyed walking this route apart from the section around Molehill Green which involved walking on a busy road with no pavement and limited verges. For this reason I would not recommend it goes on the network and have suggested an alternative route....

Walk this routeThis is a good route between Dunmow (good bus service) and Braintree (train and bus services)....

This is a cul de sac where it can be difficult to see the footpath which leads onto the golf course as it ends in a parking bay (see photo). There is a short section on the road with no footpath as you approach the start of the Flitch Way (see photo)....

If you are going from Dunmow to Thaxted direction I have included a photo of where the footpath meets the road near Little Easton opposite Elmbridge Farm as it looks as if you are entering private property but there is a footpath signpost on the opposite side of the road and a faded yellow arrow on the gate post. If you are going in the Thaxted Dunmow direction the footpath goes between two houses at Great Easton which is easily missed (follow the dog's gaze) if you aren't looking out for it....

Pub stops in Great Dunmow, Little Easton, Great Easton, Duton Hill and Thaxted - stopping at Duton Hill breaks the journey nicely. Good walk, saw buzzard and kestrel too, keep an eye out for the red kites!...
