Help connect Telford
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Telford’s Slow Ways.

A pleasant wooded walk from Broseley to Coalport of almost 2 miles before crossing the Severn at the Boat Inn at Jackfield to Coalport....

The route was good easy to follow, the last part in the town centre was confusing with the roadworks taking place, the foot bridge has been removed that was direct from the car park across to the station entrance, this needs more guidance, I will be doing the again to get round the town centre....

I walked this in June 2024, going from Wheaton Aston to Telford. The first lane out of Wheaton Aston was flooded(see image). Walk along the edge of a field then clamber out through a gap in the hedge ( see image). The path to Lucknow Farm and onto Lower Brockhurst was easy to find, but there was some cropping before the enclosed lane just before Lower Brockhurst (see image). The path to Gatherwynd is how we would like all across field paths to be, kissing gates and obvious on the ground (see image). All went well until just before the end when a clear waymark pointed straight through a potato field.( see image) .The access road was only a few yards to the left and seemed a sensible choice. You have to follow the field boundary and look out for the one place where it is possible to get to and through the hedge (see image))....

Generally a great route although a couple of sections on road without footpaths and a little more traffic than would have been ideal. Otherwise the route uses a lot of the Monarchs Way, which is well signed....

This route is very long, as are all sensible walking routes between Shrewsbury and Telford I haven't tackled it in one go but broke at Wellington. The route follows the Shropshire Way , the Telford T50 50 Mile Trail and the Hutchison Way in places. Those parts of the route are well waymarked and easy to follow,, Having said that , the Shropshire Way between Haughmond and Rodington is sometimes ploughed and sometimes has crops, usually thee route is reinstated....

There is a slight inaccuracy in the mapping around the cricket /hockey pitch in St Georges, but the route is obvious. If you have time, there are worthwhile diversions , going via Church Aston gives a more pleasant road walk at the start, the monument in Lilleshall is worth the climb, as is the hill to the left in the Granville LNR., but these would make it less direct....

Given it's length, this route is a bit of an endurance challenge, but I would highly recommend it to others. To me it ticks most of the boxes that make for a suitable Slow Ways route except for accessibility (given the stiles), and perhaps directness....

I would walk it again. It is a safe walk.No access issues....

Bit of everything I thought; (in no particular order) footpaths, woods, water pools, bridges, slight inclines, mud, one stile, historical features. I thought it was a safe accurate route I would happily walk again and recommend to others....

Walk this routeThere was obviously a recent diversion on the Monarch's Way between Beckbury and Heath House Farm that was waymarked but is not on the current OS online mapping....

Parts were fine, where it is on a road, fenced tracks, or field paths immediately West of Blymhill (photo 3). I have given an alternative that has more road walking as it misses out a part where I just could not get through a hedge (photo 6) and a nightmare field ( photo 7) , fence ( photo 1 ) and road crossing....

The route from Shrewsbury to Wellington was walked in very fine weather and walking along the river Severn out of Shrewsbury passing the weir was an excellent way to start the walk. This route seemed to be quite safe from issues with traffic, there are good links to bus routes and railway stations at either end of the walk, and a good opportunity to break the walk into two sections with the transport links that Wellington has...

Wellington to Telford was an easy route of contrasts, woodlands where you may spot deer to the new developments in Telford....

Shrewsbury to Wellington is a good 5-6 hour walk, Wellington to Telford, a further 2-2.5, so could be done in a day. Despite these, there are no pavements along the busy main roads between Shrewsbury and Wellington, and although the main road between Wellington and Telford does have them, it's not a route that I would take, making this route the preferred one....

Naomi Wrighton added Shrtel four, a new walk from Shrewsbury to Telford
Walk this routeI have rated it low because, as it stands, it is not walkable, as there is an error in the mapping after Haughmond Hill where the Shropshire Way now goes to the North West of a small reservoir, not South East. Also the route beyond Wellington does not take advantage of ways to leave the very busy "old A5" /Holyhead Road/Watling Street/B5061. I have corrected the error and made other suggestions, but still keeping largely this route, at ShrTel4....
