Help connect Streetly
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Streetly’s Slow Ways.

A great route worthy of five stars as it mainly goes through Sutton Park....

Starting from Walsall you go through the enjoyable Arboretum which was very muddy at my time of walking so i had to take the path to the South joining the canal path before reaching the Beacon Way at Rushall locks....
Nigel Cull
Another good sloways route easy to follow taking in Red House Park first before picking up the Beacon Way onto Barr Beacon with great views all round before ending in Streetly. Can be muddy along the Beacon Way part after rain....
Nigel Cull
A very direct route and easy to follow along mostly pavements plus grass verge. Leaving Walsall crossing just below the top of Barr Beacon with lovey views before arriving into Streetly. Another good Slowways....

It would be possible to use more minor roads as you approach Aldridge by turning into the Bar Common area and walking along Whetstone lane but I don't think this justifies a third route in this case. Overall a good Slow Ways route. There is also a very nice coffee shop at the Streetly end called Breathe as well as multiple places to eat in Aldridge....

Mick Sadler added Walsstr three, a new walk from Walsall to Streetly
Walk this routeGood route through Sutton Park from Streetly to Sutton Coldfield. Can be muddy when wet just before Blackroot Pool, but enjoyable....
Nigel Cull
Easy route through Sutton Park suitable for all users. Good Slow Ways Route....
Nigel Cull
Not really any alternatives to this route due to lack of off road options. Nice views of fields along the majority of the route though. Only points to take care are the road crossings near roundabouts....

David Sanderson added Grestr two, a new walk from Great Barr to Streetly
Walk this routeThe next section follows Chapel Lane, first as a residential street and then, having crossed Walsall Road via the pedestrian crossing, as a country lane. There is a short section of lane walking, but the traffic is calmed and I found local drivers to be considerate. There is a short section through woods and a road to cross....
David Sanderson
3 Bridle Lane, although direct, has no pavement and there is a less direct but much safer alternative via Barr Beacon...
David Sanderson
Starting from Streetly the route takes you on a dog leg to the end of Bridle Lane to join Aldridge Road heading north. There is a section of this fast road with no pavement which you would need to follow. Dangerous and unnecessary as there are much safer options....

David Sanderson added Aldstr two, a new walk from Aldridge to Streetly
Walk this routeThe only tricky crossings potentially are the Aldridge Road, the roundabout at the end of Bourne Vale and Erdington Road, when you arrive in Aldridge....
David Sanderson
This route is almost identical to Walsstr two except for at the very beginning, having crossed Peel Street you climb up the footpath to the right of St Matthews and then descend to where you would have been had you followed the other, flatter route. The view pictured is unique to this route, otherwise Walsstr Two is a much better option. The plotting of this route leaves a lot to be desired but is irritating rather than misleading....
David Sanderson
There is only a short section without a pavement but the verge is very wide and even. It's pavement all the way from there and the final section takes you through leafy residential streets of Streetly. This route is certainly direct and I found the amount of pavement walking offset by how wide the pavement is, or in some sections, how far it is from the road....
David Sanderson
Starting from outside Sutton Coldfield Town Hall the route curves around and downhill towards the entrance to Sutton Park. The last section passes through a residential street in Streetly prior to crossing the Chester Road to reach the Streetly meeting point by a Tesco Express....
David Sanderson
Starts by the Chester Road and then follows a quiet residential street to the edge of Sutton Park....
David Sanderson
Pelican crossing by the golf club for the busy Thornhill Road and a Zebra crossing at the bottom of Upper Clifton Road. There is usually an ice-cream van by the Jamboree Stone in the centre of the park which also sells soft drinks....
Mr Tippy
The route through Sutton Park uses an uneven dirt path which gets muddy when wet. There is also a short steep section near to Blackroot Pool which can be tricky. There is an alternative route which uses the main paved path....
